What People are saying

Generally Excellent

MrsBoxerDogon 02/08/2017 18:45

What a wonderful place Binz, on the island of Rugen is despite the long journey, which I recommend should be done in two parts. One can imagine the gentry in the old days taking the air or convalescing. All very elegant and can be described as an up-market beach resort. Not a lot to do, but by wandering around the quiet stand/prom, the See Bridge (the Pier to us in the UK!) time soon goes. Do take a trip on the Roland train to Sellin.
The Hotel was stunning and I can say, probably one of the best I've visited. Lovely decor, homely, absolutely beautiful with very polite staff and between us we got around the language barrier. We were made to feel very welcome. Room 301 was very quiet, facing the front, no balcony, but high windows. Upon arrival (having been met at the station by the hotel’s car/chauffeur – about a 10 min ride and car stinking of smoke) we were offered a cold drink which was most welcome – apple juice. We had a small explanation of the hotel and warning that there were going to be 4,000 people (there weren’t) at the front of the hotel for a popular German pop chap/song writer. Upon querying timing, we were told 8.00 – 10.00 p.m. (ummm, I thought!). The concert ended at 10.10 p.m. (apparently due to strict laws). Fair enough. I was fast asleep by then after a long day!!
We were given a typed invitation to meet the Management at 5.30 p.m. in the Library. This consisted of a glass of champagne and any queries - a nice touch.
The room was beautifully spacious with charm and character. Sadly, no tea/coffee making facilities. Safe, bathrobes and slippers, TV, i-pad (not that I can use one of those!), very comfortable seating area and plenty of wardrobe space.
The spa area was most relaxing and massage excellent.
Very little English spoken throughout the town.
The bathroom, although small, had everything and both room and bathroom were very clean. Very good quality toilet paper.
Breakfast was excellent, absolutely everything, with attentive staff in a light airy room. All taken at a very calm pace. A wonderful butter machine to play with!
One evening we had two soft drinks in the bar. These totalled 6.10E. I gave a 10E note and the waiter thanked us and walked off. I would have been happy to tip him, but not 3.90E for a hot chocolate and tonic water! We also had a problem with one night’s dinner (the only night we ate in). The monkfish was cold and not cooked. After a lot of debate (mainly because of language problems) 50E was taken off our dinner bill.
Despite this, I would definitely stay at this hotel again and thoroughly recommend it.

Brilliant location right on seafront

Paul Jon 11/07/2017 16:58

A wonderful, friendly hotel. It's right in the Centre of the seafront with the pier and beach close by. Very good double glazing, so quiet rooms despite plenty going on around. Excellent breakfast included in room rate

An otherwise 5 star experience marred by extra charges / "lost in translation" misunderstanding

m_prebbleon 27/05/2017 12:19

I need to begin by saying that if it wasn't for the unpleasant surprise of an 180 euro extra charge on checkout then this would probably have been a 5 star experience; the hotel really is lovely, the staff made us feel welcome and the location is fantastic.
It was my father-in-laws 60th birthday and my partner and I wanted to give him a weekend in Germany. Researching prior, Travel Charme Binz seemed by far the best option, so we booked two nights, two rooms online (from Expedia).
A few days prior to departure I called the hotel and spoke to a receptionist (lets call her Miss S) and asked her if it was possible for a high-floor sea view room *within the price class*. She said she would do what she could, and you can imagine how glad we felt when arriving to find the hotel had placed both our rooms with sea views, and balconies... the rooms were without a doubt spectacular in terms of sea view. Perhaps being on the first floor one felt a little exposed from the steady stream of people walking the ocean promenade. The other minor disappointment with the room was the lack of a fridge. For a hotel of this class, it should be a given. But, I also see the business idea behind it; by not including a fridge in the room guests are forced to either consume warm beer or pay premium prices from the bar/vending machines.

A very nice (and appreciated) gesture from the hotel was once we had settled into the room, the porter came up with a bottle of white wine with a handwritten note wishing Thomas, my father-in-law a very happy 60th. Such a personal touch, we were all very impressed.

The room was well equipped (except for the lack of fridge) and included safety box, plenty of electricity outlets, beautiful bathroom and the standard of cleanliness was top-notch.
A common issue we encountered thoughout was the lack of English in everything ranging from the signage, to hotel information folder, to the English competence of some of the staff. While I realise that we are in Germany and German is the native language, a hotel of this category (catering to international tourists) should have bi-lingual information for their guests.
WiFi was easy enough to connect and worked for the most part, sometimes it would suffer severe slow-downs but overall was fine.

The breakfast buffet was scrumptious with a complete selection even serving white wine :) Coffee was a bit (by Swedish standards anyway) disappointing, but unfortunately this experience held true throughout our entire visit to Rügen (not just the hotel).

The spa and pool area were enjoyable, clean and the indoor/outdoor pool flow was well done. (One could swim through a plastic curtain and suddenly you are in the outside pool). The SPA area is a naked spa (which we initially didn't know as all the signage was in German) but a cosy and nice environment.

Now to the not-so-fun part: on checkout "Miss S" gave me the bill which I didn't study hard enough, but thought the amount seemed much higher than we had booked for. This was in the back of my mind and it wasn't until we were on the ferry back to Sweden that I cross-checked it with the Expedia booking and saw that the hotel had added "Logi Aufpreis 7%" for each night, each room amounting to a total of 180 euros extra. I rang the hotel from the ferry, and Miss S told me that she had told me about the extra charge on the phone .. she hadn't. She reluctantly agreed to refund the extra charge, but then after consulting her supervisor said she went back on her word and said she was no longer going to refund because she had "let me know at every possible option about the new rate".
This was absolute rubbish; we had no change of rate confirmation, and had we, there is no way we would have agreed to it. I'm not sure if it was her English level where things got mixed up, but either way I was furious, and started a disputes claim with Amex. The rooms and revenue manager for the hotel seemed to have a bit more sense and contacted me admitting that he wasn't sure the rate change had been properly communicated and set about refunding the 180 overcharge.

To summarise, we probably did get a better room than we paid for (in relation to the sea view) but I'm not sure if it was language misunderstanding on her part, or mixup somewhere .. but had we known the extra charges prior we would have kept our original rate. The hotel, aside from this unfortunate extra charge, was a wonderful place to stay. Would I recommend it? Yes, but confirm your rate on check-in and even more so, on checkout.

Worth to note, parking costs 9 euro per day and there is a local Binz tax added per night to the bill.

Very Nice Seaside Hotel

Purrinianon 20/05/2017 18:33

Had a little bit of trouble getting to the hotel as there was a race on and the road we needed was closed. Great hotel with a particularly interesting swimming pool, part inside and part outside, you can swim under a flap that separates both parts if you wish. I was surprised that I was forbidden to go into the swimming area with my clothes on. You have to change in your room and go to the pool in the supplied robe. I liked the interesting pictures of 1920's seaside pictures on the walls, but the highlight has to be the butter machine in the breakfast area. This machine produces little star shaped portions of butter when you press a button - never seen anything like it.

Concert outside the sea-view window

Thalerineon 15/05/2017 17:58

Spectacular place with a spectacular location.
However, no information on the booking-site that you may suffer a loud undesired night- concert outside your window with a sea-view. Reception-staff spoke poor English and argued in a way that were not charming at all when the fact was pointed out, despite the name of the hotel. It really spoiled the atmosphere.

Would have loved to give this extraordinary place a good ranking for the view, the beauty, the delicious breakfast, the nice piano-bar and the comfortable beds... but all in all, I´m sorry, it did not meet my expectations.
