What People are saying

Lol yea... learned my lesson about cheap motels

0245044 on 16/02/2014 00:23

Stayed here awhile ago with my mother, brother, and friend. Had one of the cabins up on the top of the hill. (When I say cabin, I mean scary motel room.)

Overall experience was terrible, and gross, but what topped it off was the loud raging knocks on our door at 6 in the morning. We were all freaked out because that's extremely strange. My mother goes to the door, and it's the office man/manager, screaming at us that we broke in to the room in the middle of the night and did not pay! Demanded that we tell him how we got in there. My mother insisted that we already paid up front.. went and got our receipt and SHOWED him it. Then after this huge fight, he said he must have made a mistake and forgot he sold us the room for the night.

We quickly checked out after we got packed up. He wouldn't give us a refund for our room.

Also to what someone else said.. yes.. strangers outside of room all hours of the night. A lot of vehicles came up and lots of groups of people standing outside. Prostitution? Drug Ring? I really don't know. Triple locked our doors and didn't ask questions.

Also.. the motel claimed to have a pool. On the first day that we went there, we asked where it was and we were told it was at the motel next door and we could walk over and use it. So we drove over, and found our way behind the motel to the pool.. which was gated and locked.. Looked like no one had used it in years... Pool was full of leaves... This was the middle of summer. Tree branches leaves, everything disgusting and green in the pool.

Literally the worst place we've ever stayed, and now is the butt of many jokes as we drive by.

Please don't go.

Motel Hell

Where to begin?

Bloodstained sheets, plugged drains, broken heater, no towels or facecloths, old carpets, broken TV, creepy strangers outside rooms @ 2am in the morning, not suitable for anybody to stay in. WiFi internet worked. Trees too close to rear of building.

For closeness to Airport, try airport hotels. For closeness to Halifax, any of the OTHER motels on the Bedford Highway *except* this one.

All in all, a great setting for filming a cheap horror movie, but not for staying overnight under any reasonable circumstances.

Not The Best

Service at front desk was great, friendly and very helpful....Room was cold....had to turn heat up to 90 to get it warm...sink would not drain...toilet plugged and last time it plugged it would not go down....glass on sink when we checked in full of lipstick...no bars of soap for shower, only a soap dispenser and only 2 towels and 2 facecloths....centrally located which was good

Stay only if you have to!

Overprice, even for prox to airport or town. Very old room with old carpet and curtains, and no air circulation.... thus condensation on outer walls and bathroom floor, very musty. Had to resort to a portable fan for air circulation because 2 big windows were not openable. There are 2 more motel/hotel near by. Would try others next time.

Second stay...not as good as the first.

The Travelers Motel in Bedford is very conveniently located just minutes from downtown Halifax. We have stayed there as a family twice for the purpose of taking our son to Dalhousie University. The first time we stayed in September 2011 things went a bit more smoothly than this time.

The good thing about the motel is, as I said, its convenient location. It's also got a funky retro feel that's kind of fun, but if you are looking for modern and posh, go elsewhere. I agree with the reviewer who says that the pricing is a function of proximity to the airport and to Halifax, but is not justified by the accommodation. The rooms are clean and housekeeping does a good job of keeping them that way. It is obvious, however, that back in the day the rooms were all smoking rooms. There is a lingering odor that will probably never be completely eradicated. The bathrooms have a multiple mirror set up that we joke creates a "mirrorception" effect. The fixtures are at least 50 years old in retro colors - our bathroom was pink - we don't mind that. Wifi connectivity was good and there is basic cable tv, which is fine.

We had some glitches this trip. There was confusion about how many nights we were booked to stay, so we got a call after the first night asking us when we were moving out. We explained that we weren't - we were booked for three days. The person at the hotel desk did not have 100% command of English, which may have explained things. We also had to ask for the proper number of towels for people staying in the room. Our tub did not drain properly, but seemed better as the stay went on. The ventilation in the bathrooms is inadequate - there is no way to clear them of steam other than just keeping the bathroom door open. There is no coffee maker and no complimentary toiletries e.g. shampoo/soaps. The train tracks run almost directly behind the motel, so if train tracks bother you, keep that in mind. We don't mind that.

The restaurant/diner associated with the motel is actually pretty good - it's catecorner across the street. It was a little pricey, but we find all restaurant experiences in Canada relatively pricey by our standards at home.

We are thinking of trying different accommodations the next time we are in the Halifax area, although we also thought about staying in one of the cabins instead of the main motel to see if we like that better if only for the vintage experience.
