Such a nice place! Have a fifth floor suite. Very roomy, clean, having everything needed. Very friendly and helpful staff. The view of the river and city is great. Numerous TV stations. Beds and pillows are very comfortable. The complementary breakfast room is attractive and centrally located. We parked right outside hallway to room

Right on the central downtown street and kindest breakfast service ever

We stayed here on an UP week of travel. Booked online for this hotel right on the river on the Houghton side about 1 block from the bridge. Clearly an older hotel with a new facade and an odd set up. However comfy beds and the nicest worker who insisted on getting everyone coffee or juice. Overall great location and good stay

Great remodel!

I was surprised by the change since our last stay a few years ago. The motel is completely remodeled inside and out. The rooms, carpeting, decor and furnishing are all new and pleasing. There is barely a hint of the old. The corridor to the pool and fitness room still has the old wood paneling if you want a taste of the old appearance.

Check in was pleasant and even included a variety of cookies in the lobby.

We were fortunate to score a room on the fifth level. It afforded wonderful views of the shipping channel, the unique lift bridge and the vast hill across the water. An added plus, the window was spotless. Many motels we have stayed in have windows that look very neglected.

Lighting was excellent and there are adequate electrical outlets for your battery chargers, laptops, medical appliances and other electrical paraphernalia.

A few minuses that are not too distracting: Rooms on the fifth or sixth level require 21 or more steps to get to the morning breakfast room. The only option for the handicapped from those two levels which have parking one street higher than the lobby is to use their automobile to drive around the block to the lobby one street below and use the elevator to get to the breakfast area. Houghton is situated on steep grades sort of like San Francisco. The only other fault I can remember is neither sink in our room (506) had stoppers.

The breakfast was good with bacon instead of sausage, which adds a little variety to the usual fare.

I would definitely stay here again.

When you first check in the lobby area is super nice and clean, I picked this location because it said it was recently remodel and I got a discount through work! But when I checked into the room, the room was filthy, carpets where dirty, the sheets in my bed where stain, what made it worse was when I called the front desk to ask for new sheets nobody answer, thank goodness that I packed a confortar for the trip! We managed to stayed there since there was no other hotel in town with vacancy. Would I stay here again? No I will not. I have stayed in better Quality inns!

snowmobile weekend

When we checked in the hotel the customer service was exceptional, I also requested a roll away and staff brought it up to the room and in a timely matter. The lobby was cleans and a nice little coffee, tea bar. The lay out of the hotel is different then any other then I ever stayed at. You walked through the corridor into another section of the hotel where all the rooms are located, it felt like at one time the rooms where outside of the main lobby. The pool area was very clean and at a good temperature, it felt great after the cold day out snowmobiling. The continental breakfast had a good array of items offered. The room was clean and roomy, had room to have a roll away.
I was very disappointed in two points of my stay - our room was across from the vending machines and the door to walk out the side of the hotel. It was very loud with people using it at all hours of the night and the vending machines as well. If I was to make a suggestion I would have this door locked at a certain hour and move the vending machines to another location in the building. I also was not impressed with the temperature in our rooms bathroom - we had the heat turned up in our room but our bathroom was freezing. cold getting out of the shower, toilet seat was freezing and floor was very cold. I understand it being a little cold but this was exceptionally cold. The hotel is located in a great location, right in downtown in walking distance to restaurants.
