Mixed Experience
Sally Lon 05/08/2017 19:39Nice welcome from the owners and lots of helpful advice on offer. Nice touches like free access to the swimming pool and a bus pass to get around the village.
Style and décor of the hotel is very traditional.
Great location for getting around. 5 minute walk from the railway station and close proximity to bus routes and cable cars. Several walks accessible on foot directly from the hotel. All the amenities you need including a pharmacy, supermarket, numerous shops selling walking equipment and a leisure centre.
Although the location is a definite “pro” for this hotel it could also be a “con” depending on what you want from a holiday. The central location also means that it is in very close proximity to the bars and restaurants and the very lively bar at the Hotel Spinney on the opposite corner which has loud music until late in the evening most nights. There are also weekly street parties on a Wednesday during July and August with live music until midnight right outside. The Hotel Spinney taking over once the live music finished. If you want some night life then the location will work for you. Not so much if you have been out walking all day and just want to have a decent nights sleep and walk again the next day.
We had a room at the back so weren’t bothered by road noise but couldn’t sleep with the window open due to noise from the bar opposite which was a shame. The room had a lovely balcony with breath taking views of the Eiger and the valley which we never grew tired of looking at.
A kettle is provided but no tea or coffee. Co-op just down the street so not a problem. Housekeeping could up their game. Bathroom could have been cleaner although the important things were fine and there were finger marks on the window and doors going out to the balcony. No vacuming or dusting done in our room during our stay. Also, they left used glasses, spoons and mugs in the room for the entire week. We washed the mugs ourselves when we needed them. We could have complained but it became a source of amusement to come back each evening and find that they were still there. We moved them to various locations each day to see if it made any difference. Beds are very comfortable and the bed linen is clean. There are many TV channels. Not many English Channels but this place is so lovely you are not going to want to waste time watching TV.
Breakfast was very nice. Continental style with a good choice of bread, fruit, meats, cheese, boiled eggs and cereal. Jams were lovely. Could have been home made. Depending on who is on duty you may or may not get offered orange juice. Ask if it’s not offered.
Not hotel related but our advice would be to get the 6 day travel pass if you are staying for a week. Seems like a lot of money but when you start paying for things individually you will realise that it is worth doing and you will get your monies worth.
I would stay at this hotel again if it were quieter at night as it is perfect in many ways and represents good value for money by Swiss standards.
Perfect Hotel, staff are amazing ! Thanks !
PaulFawcett1974on 01/08/2017 10:21Monica and Robert and all their staff are fantastic. They all make you feel so welcome right from the time your arrive to when you leave, they always had time for a laugh and a joke and to give us information about the area which made our stay even more enjoyable. Hotel Tschuggen is a perfect place to stay whilst staying in Grindelwald. We stayed 10 nights and loved it. We could park our car on site each day, the Rooms are spacious, clean and the view of the Eiger mountain from our balcony was stunning. Free Wifi was great and breakfast was enough to set us up for the days, boiled eggs, breads and jams...lovely. We also took the half board dinner option on one night over at Barrys Restaurant just across Dorfstrasse, very nice indeed. We will definitely be back...thank you for the perfect stay. x

Overall Switzerland is in general price/quality not in balance. I realise that Switzerland is more expensive. That is Oke when it als fill the Dutch quality standarts.
General comment nit specific for this hotel
Crawling distance from the finish line
Karin Åon 21/07/2017 18:12Had a plesant stay for three nights when participating in the Eiger Ultra and we chose the hotel first and foremost for the location. Nice and simple, nothing extravagant and close to almost everything.
Great hosts, central location
Mountaineer4061on 18/07/2017 09:24Lovely friendly hosts. We stayed in the family room which was a separate building next door - access was a bit tricky via open metal stairs which so not ideal for small children but view of Eiger from terrace was great. Room a bit dated but really clean and everything worked no prob. Would definitely recommend for those on a budget. Breakfast was lovely - highly recommend the Bircher muesli!
