Love the garden view and private bath!
ElefanteLocoSFon 26/02/2017 06:00Beautiful garden view from the room and the private outdoor bath (onsen) was amazing! Food was great and really nice staff. We also went to the plum park in the area. It was approx. 30 mins taxi ride but nice to be surrounded by beautiful plum trees. Plum blossom seems to be a little delayed this year and perhaps the following week (first week of March) would be even more amazing! Highly recommended!
An Amazing Experience
Rover_at_Homeon 18/02/2017 14:09A beautiful, authentic (and upscale) Japanese ryokan, where you will completely relax and let go of what we sometimes call 'the real world'. We booked a traditional room with tatami mat floors, low dining table and private outdoor onsen bath. I was somewhat concerned that my husband would be uncomfortable sitting on the floor and he did have a few moments near the end of our elaborate dinner, but he agreed that the experience was well worth it. In fact it was one of his favorite stays ever. Our attendant, Amshi, served us a beautifully-prepared dinner, course by course, and later, prepared our beds on the floor. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the floor mattresses were cozy and topped with pillow-soft bedding. I felt completely cocooned and slept amazingly well. That might also have something to do with the hot spring bath just outside the door and the massage chair in our second room. All I know is that I loved every minute of the experience and would go back in a heartbeat.
Westerners Beware
turnbullfamily2016on 19/09/2016 05:54My husband and I just returned from a one night stay at this resort. We had booked for two nights, but cut our trip short. The reviews we read about this property do not emphasize some of the concerns a Western traveller might have. First of all, no one speaks English. If you have a problem, there is no one to help you, unless you speak Japanese. This is a very authentic ryokan, so be sure to understand the experience you are signing up for. We had requested a room with western beds, but did not receive them. We were told the ryokan was full and we could not change our room. I have some serious knee problems and found it quite difficult to sleep on the tatami mat floor with just a thin futon. We had to eat at a very low table. They asked me if I had any allergies, and when I said 'yes', they were unable to ask any further as to what they might be. One of the other reviews suggested that they ask you your food preferences. We did not find that to be the case. I found the food extremely challenging and ate very little. It was beautifully prepared and presented, but fish intestines are not appealing, no matter how they are plated. There are two very low, uncomfortable chairs in the room, a small table and nothing else. There is nowhere to relax or take a nap. There is nothing to do other than drink in their lounge or go to the Onsen. On a practical note, there is nowhere to plug in your computer. We immediately expressed our concerns to management and told them we would like to check out. We were told that we could leave, but there would be no refunds or credits whatsoever. While I acknowledge that their cancellation policy expressly provided for that, it was somewhat disappointing, given that they could not accommodate our bedding preferences. After a sleepless night we left first thing in the morning. The cost for our second night was $1300 Canadian, which we forfeited. Upon leaving the hotel they presented us with a bill for 216 yen for a bottle of water that I had consumed from the mini-bar. I was shocked by this, particularly since our room included an elaborate dinner and breakfast and we were forfeiting both of these meals by leaving early. When I expressed my dismay, they did not pursue it. I must also acknowledge that they did provide us with a bottle of wine the night before due to the fact that they could not accommodate our sleeping preferences, but it was not much of a comfort.
Simply peaceful
Yutaka Non 15/12/2015 05:58My family stayed in Tsubaki on a Friday night and we simply had a very peaceful, relaxing, and memorable stay.
Especially their onsen (hot springs) with the view of mountains made us completely relaxed. Onsen is open 24 hours, and comes with indoor and outdoor baths, and a sauna. Because it is not crowded, we could enjoy the views of mountains, the sky, stars at night. It was great moment to simply be there and contemplate quietly.
Our stay at Tsubaki included kaiseki dinner, breakfast, and our room had our private Onsen hot tub outside our room. Food was delicious, immaculate, plenty and just satisfying.
Tsubaki provided quietness, comfort, and valuable moments for us, and we are very happy stayed here.
Best Onsen Hotel With Amazing Service
Pat Pon 15/10/2015 07:43We take a training group there every year and the staff are so good and accommodating. This is a relatively expensive onsen and we think it is more than worth the money. On a secluded hillside with running hot volcanic water it is really special. If you book a room with a private bath you can enjoy the onsen experience both in private and of course in the public bath. High quality hotel with great service. I hope to be back next year.
