Old but it's a one that fits all hotel - great for all ages!

wendywang1016on 11/04/2017 10:45

First thing I experienced is great hospitality from doorman and front desk.

Though the hotel is a bit old but it's great for all ages and best for family and friends gathering.
The hotel has bowling, arcade which is a great time for family with kids.
It also have free public or paid private KTV (karaoke)
The hot water bath (hot spring) is clean and view is great. My friends went to the "lucky/charm" hot spring, which you have to take bus. They said it's outdoor and view is great.

Breakfast is not bad too!
Sound insulation is great - no noise from next door!

The only thing I think it's a bit too trouble for me is it's a BIG hotel, and the passway between the building (there are 2 building) is not connect in every floor so it might be confusing at first.

Another is no welcome dessert (which other traditional Japanese hotel will usually provide as a welcome sweet)

Traditional Onsen hotel.

The hotel is old but clean. It is a good place to experience the traditional Japanese life style. Room is quite big. Foods are amazing! Delicious and delicate traditional Japanese cuisine.
Hotel staff are all very nice and polite.
Out door onsen is beautiful and comfortable.

Onsens galore

Our group was greeted with a full team of staff plus the giant Kumamon at the entrance. Beautiful setting high up over the river in a quaint onsen town. My room was enormous. Two separate toilet and sink areas plus rotenburo. Loved hearing the river from my room. After checking in we immediately went to a rotenburo facility 5min shuttle ride from hotel. Beautiful place! Traditional feel, wooden walkways, five or so different baths. You can see all the water pipes from one of the windows, kind of interesting. We had dinner in a private room with a private chef that cooked up local cow on charcoal grill. There is the older onsen on one side of the hotel (kind of confusing to get to). It's big, has outdoor area too. The newer onsen facility just opened Oct 2016 and operates starting at 4pm. What an onsen wonderland. There was maybe 8 indoor and 8 outdoor baths (covered area). The water was overflowing onto the floor. One bath was super hot. The staff said it was 42deg but it had to be hotter. It was almost too hot to even dip your toes in. Fortunately it was right next to the cold pool. There is also a sauna room and massage chairs. The hotel has karaoke, arcade room, bowling, nightclub bar...a real resort setting but doesn't feel crazy. Lots of large tour groups stay here but didn't feel too crowded except when breakfast opened.

For family, and seriously wearing off

This hotel is clearly designed to host families. And it does it right. As a couple, we wear a bit off.
Place is old and the bathroom could get a refresh.
Found a cockroach. But mostly clean.
Location is nice, not too far from the bus station.

Hotel straddles Oita-Kumamoto borderline

DYA717on 07/04/2014 05:50

Our Hawaii group overnighted here; said to be the largest outdoor hot spring in Kyushu. Legend has it that this onsen cures lame feet. We were greeted by staff beating the large taiko drum. Hundreds of koi noboris (carp streamers normally displayed early April to early May) were flown on cables strung at various places across the river. The hotel has 2 sections with a line indicating the borderline between the OITA and the KUMAMOTO prefectures. Our departure was done by waving staff lined up on the road to the accompaniment of the taiko drum.
