What People are saying

Lovely place to stay

Ingrid Mon 12/07/2017 15:47

Lovely hotel, right in the middle of Zuidlaren, in a beautiful area in Drenthe.
Very nice room, with comfortable beds, great shower and a little balcony.
Good varied breakfast buffet, which is replenished right to the end of b/f time.
Actual freshly squeezed juice !! All the staff very friendly and helpful, as in the restaurant "Eethuis voor Allen" where a very nice meal is served. Didn't think much of the wine though :-(
Town center within walking distance, for a bit more extensive shopping.....an easy bus ride will take you to Groningen or Assen.

Excellent all round.

The hotel far exceeded my expectations. I had booked a single room, and was surprised to find I was provided with a large, double room, with a large 'wet room', and access to a secluded quadrangle with tables and chairs.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the service second to none.
The small, attractive town of Zuidlaren is easily accessed from the hotel, which is located on the main junction, with excellent shopping facilities, and lots of cafes and restaurants, and is ideally located in the quiet countryside, with easy access to all the main road routes.
Thoroughly recommended.

Great place to eat

This hotel and restaurant is under new ownership and you can tell, we ate in the restaurant and it was great. Just a fine Dutch dinner in nice surroundings and with excellent service..
Restaurant name is "eten voor allen"
This really is worth a visit for a reasonable priced dinner , you won't be dissapointed..

Good quality for price

Positive:
- Booked at a very cheap price (maybe I was lucky)
- Bathroom shower basic but ok
- Clean room
- Breakfast: good
- Friendly staff
Negative:
- It would have been nice to have some snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate) in the minibar
- I could not regulate the room temperature. It was too hot during the night.
- Very uncomfortable pillow

I tried the restaurant. Good food but not 'wow'.

Dire, and no one cared.

Firstly I should say I rarely give bad reviews, but there is little option here. The hotel itself was ok, breakfast ok, cleanliness fine, but we had the misfortune to stay on the night of a rap festival over the road that finished at 2 am and then took another 2 hours to dismantle. The noise was simply atrocious and at the risk of sounding 'little britainish' simply would not be tolerated in the centre of a town in the UK. It was so loud the windows were vibrating constantly and it was simply impossible to have a conversation in the same room without shouting. The rooms were stiflingly hot and no air conditioning. By midnight my 4 kids were bouncing off the wall with exhaustion and my husband was going crackers. It is simply not acceptable to know that this is going to take place and not inform guests who would be staying that night. I had only confirmed my reservation by e mail a few days earlier so they had the perfect opportunity to inform me. Had I known I would have changed my booking. After a long day and start to family holiday I don't want to listen to some moron shouting P*SS P*SS P*SS into a microphone louder than Glastonbury and I certainly don't want my children to hear such language. I can honestly say I had not one jot of sleep all night and felt like Id been slapped senseless the following morning. I asked for my money back in the morning and the receptionist was surly and uncooperative. She told me the hotel was in the centre of town and i should expect such things. REALLY? REALLY?!! I repeated my request for a refund, so she phoned her manager and moaned about me to her manager. Yes I do speak dutch quite well actually and slagging off your guests really isn't a good idea. As a result I got some of a refund and we bolted for the door. A pity really as the town looked pleasant enough and we had planned to have a look round for an hour and spend money. I will never return to ZuIdlaren and I will think very carefully about whether I should stay at a Golden Tulip hotel again. They have awful customer service and should retrain their staff. Try saying Sorry to your guests who were tortured for a night there. What about giving them a free weekend to show you are actually a decent chain of hotels? To be honest its not going to happen as they have showed that customer service is low on their list.
