What a Countryside Kro should look like.
Gareth497on 20/06/2017 20:37Situated about 5 mins from the lovely peaceful Moravian settlement of Christianfeld (A UNESCO World Heritage Site), Tyrstrup Kro is a picturesque Thatched Kro in rolling countryside with plenty of on-site car parking.
We had not chosen a ‘Spa’ room but were given Room 6 with a huge corner Jacuzzi bath. This was in the thatched annex. This meant a walk ‘outside’ to reach the main buildings.
The room itself was well equipped and had a mini-bar and safe, but both room and bathroom seemed somewhat ‘tired’ decor.
We were somewhat daunted at the instructions for using the Jacuzzi (having to use tablets in the water both before and after use, all very sensible for health and safety, I’m sure). But rather more than we wanted after a long drive. There was also had a over bath shower which required quite a difficult climb over the edge and into the bath. The black shower curtains seemed very old fashioned.
When booking, we had opted for a special offer that included coffee and cake on arrival along with the 4 course tasting menu and breakfast.
The afternoon ‘cake’ turned out to be a delicious local speciality ‘Apple Cake’ that, to us was more like a dessert than a cake. Being a layer of crunchy biscuit, then tasty stewed apple and topped with whipped cream served in a glass bowl. But if the Danes want to call it cake, then can I have some more Apple Cake please!
Evening meal was served in their plush dining room. The ambiance was very good and the room was well filled with diners who we felt had probably dined there previously and knew there was great food to be had. Out Tasting Menu was well cooked, balanced and beautifully presented. Overall the whole experience was really good.
However, we felt a little let down by the Breakfast. Whilst still adequate, it was more limited in choice than we had got used to. There was a lady who was dealing with ‘Check Outs’, but apart from her no one greeted us or talked us through what was available.
Coffee (admittedly with many and various choices) and juice came from dispensing machines which seemed rather disappointing, all our other stops (4 over an 11 day period) had provided fresh brewed and individually ‘potted’ coffee and self serve jugs of a choice of juices.
The Breakfast room was long and thin with the food displayed at one end and we think if the breakfast room was busy, there may be a bit of a struggle to get and enjoy your food.
Because of the location, we are guessing that it may be busy at weekends because of weddings and family celebrations.
A good base and we will consider again. Particularly as Christianfeld is a very lovely place to visit.
2 nights, while en route to Norway by motorcycle.
Chambersp1on 09/06/2017 20:22Lovely building, some parts 300 years + old I was told.
Very impressive dining experience, with great service, and amazing food.
The room was lovely. Really peaceful, which is just what I needed as I was having a day off riding and just wanted to relax.
The outdoor space is well equipped with lots off different places to sit and read, as I did.
I arrived by motorcycle, and felt that my bike was nice and safe throughout my stay, as there is a sizeable private car park.
I cannot fault a single thing. The welcome, the room, and the food were all perfect. I will stay again if I'm ever in the area.

Nice and quiet guesthouse
83janison 11/04/2017 04:00Very nice small scale quest house. Rooms were big in size and including yaguzzi bath, which may be disadvantage for somebody who is used to shower. There was no curtain so when showering the whole bathroom floor was wet.. dinner in the evening was great with small dishes. Surrounding sermed very quiet.
Very nice hotel and excellent restaurant
Alex_V_Martinezon 25/01/2017 16:23The place with several buildings offers pleasant stay and excellent restaurant. Booked menu of 6 courses (or so) and each was excellent taste and real experience. Very helpful and familiar staff ready to help anytime. Staying overnight at the depandance building. Unless full service and perfect clean room, I could hear noise from the close main road all the night. Anyhow great place I can recommend to anyone.
