Deceptive website photos
jadeg220on 29/10/2017 18:05We have a student at EIU and stayed for the first time in July 2017. The restaurant is good and we had been there many times; had always wanted to try the hotel since it is close to EIU and website photos show nice rooms. (but it was always booked)
When we did finally stay there, for one night, we were surprised to enter a musty/moldy smelling room that looked nothing like the website photos. Nothing. It was old, it was smelly, the bed was uncomfortable, and to top it off it was dirty.
The bathroom was not clean. It literally had a sticker from a new piece of clothing sticking to the door. The bathtub did not drain properly; the tub filled up as I showered.
There was mold in the bathtub grout and caulk.
We realized that the hotel only has some of its rooms updated, and those are the only room photos on the website. It was disgusting and I will never stay there again. The Day's Inn, while not a shiny beautiful hotel either, was clean the time we stayed there and less expensive.
Finally, as some others on this site have mentioned, when we went to check out you could hear crickets at the front desk. We waited and waited. I should have complained at the time, but just wanted to get the heck out of there...and did not want to unload on the desk clerk.
Easily could have gotten 5 stars...
xJEFFROxon 13/10/2017 02:55The room was awesome. Way above Charleston standards! It actually was up to Hilton standards except for the outside entrances to all rooms.
But if I’m staying 2 nights I sort of expect the room to be made up. At least they gave me a clean roughly folded towel and fresh bar of soap... And at check out I was told I couldn’t have a receipt because I booked through Expedia???? I booked through Hotels.com but whatever...
Great property. Mediocre at best service. Side note: The nicest restaurant and fanciest bar in Charleston (both with outstanding service) are located on this property.
Upscale, all the amenities, yet restful.
JohnVic_11on 24/08/2017 01:04We (my wife and I) had just seen the awesome total solar eclipse in southern Illinois, and had to drive back to Chicago. Forewarned that return traffic could be intense, we booked Unique Suites for one night, on a recommendation of a friend.
Good choice! Check in was painless.
Our king bed room #358 was on the second floor (no elevator). OK, so the rooms are numbered a bit peculiarly. The room was not overly large, but by no means cramped.
Our room had a window HVAC unit, quiet with digital thermostat that did a good job. King bed mattress seemed a bit soft, but as it turned out we slept so well, maybe softer is better? The windows only have wood slat blinds. I recall waking several times in the nigh, peering through a slat to see it was still dark, and returning for more sleep.
(I'm a morning person, but for driving, need a good night's sleep). You decide if the lack of opaque curtains on the window is a critical flaw. I didn't find it so.
We used the refrigerator; didn't need the microwave.
The pool was wonderful. Bathwater warm, not deep enough, though in my opinion. No spa. Ample (free) parking.
I liked the complementary oatmeal-raisin cookies at the check-in counter.
The only off note was the "free" breakfast. Awful (weak) coffee. Scrambled eggs were tasteless. Bacon was OK, but too salty. Sausages weren't impressive. Great orange juice! Tried the "biscuit and gravy" but both were so bland that I'd need to be desperate to try again.
Clean!
zimrockon 21/08/2017 02:26Last time I stayed they were remodeling. Clean, updated rooms. Outdoor pool was clean and not many people here felt like it was my own hotel!!! They have a complimentary breakfast not amazing but decent typical hotel breakfast. Coffee could have been better and if you need healthy choices this is a carb fest so go someone else.
Very nice!
gozogozo71on 21/08/2017 02:16I dont know what I was expecting when I booked a room here but what I got was a very nice comfy room and we had a pleasant stay.
Beautiful lobby, great breakfast area, friendly staff and updated rooms.we stayed in room 210 didn't hear any noise, beds were comfortable and clean.
For breakfast we had fresh coffee or juice, eggs, bacon sausage, breads, muffins, hot oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, yogurt and make your own waffles.
For dinner they conveniently have the Brickhouse restaurant onsite.
Stayed here so we could help our daughter get settled in her dorm room.. less then 5 minutes away.
The outside has a motel feel. But the inside feels higher end..
Love the fireplace area..
