This is what you ask for to get a great room.
KasiKingon 02/06/2017 06:00I stayed at the Van Der Falk in Leiden for a business trip for 1 night. The Hotel is clean, has a bird park right next to it to where the entry is free and included in the room. The reception for check in/out is in a separate building and I was reading many complains about it but I personally walked longer ways from the reception to my room at Las Vegas Hotels. The staff is friendly and speaks English. Not sure why I had to fill in my passport number at check in? Despite reading other reviews of the rooms being old and in the need of an update I believe I got lucky and had a very nice room on the 3rd floor. My room number was 3XX and at first it was irritating that there was no 3rd floor button in the elevator.
The room was large for 1 night stay, the bathroom modern but small. Place the room-key-card into the slot at the entry door to enable power.
The bed is comfortable to sleep in not to soft and not too hard and I had a nice view onto some birds and a little pond. People say the birds wake you up but I was awaking at 3 am due to jet lack and did not hear any birds (which I do not mind anyway)
The bathroom was missing hand lotion, the shower has and strange door with the hinge at the 1/3 position so you need to go in sideways and it closes very loud so I could hear neighbor rooms closing theirs.
The TV is very small and old but the room has a lot of very nice details like the emblem on the light switches.
The breakfast is in a different building again and has a huge verity of fruits, bread, cereals etc.
Overall a nice experience and I would stay at the Hotel again and recommend it to a friend.
A great find!
Nicole Won 20/04/2017 08:58We were traveling to Amsterdam, but wanted to find a place in between there and Rotterdam to make most of our trip. The room was very nice and the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. caution: the hot water in the showers is scolding to a point of burns the first time we used it.
The hotel is by a bird sanctuary which was surprisingly big! It was so cool to explore once all the visitors had left. It's a bit far to travel to Amsterdam, but i suggest taking a bus / train to the city. The cabs were ripping us off. There's a hotel shuttle that runs on select times that can take you to the train station.
Always a great choice!
daffydoc2on 16/04/2017 20:44This is the third year we have stayed at Van der Valk Hotel Avifauna while visiting the Keukenhof gardens. We always take different friends, and make sure that we have time to go through the Bird Park adjoining the hotel. As always, the room was quiet, well-appointed, and welcoming. Everyone in our group of five slept soundly, and enjoyed the restaurant, the bar, and the service. Last night we ventured into town and found a great Thai restaurant. All in all, the hotel is a wonderful find, and we will continue to book rooms there -- at a superb price, I might add! There were lots of families and groups of people, with lots to do -- a swimming center and a casino are adjacent to the hotel, in addition to the extensive bird park. We recommend it for everyone!!
Update urgently needed
Krissi77on 05/04/2017 15:11We stay there quite a few times per year because it's just handy. Close to my boyfriends work, restaurant on the property, it served us for a short overnighter at least 4-5 times. To be honest, it has seen better days and when you compare it to other Van der Valk hotels which we are frequently using, it's pretty much a fall out. Rooms, baths, restaurant, breakfast...generally rather below average. We will most probably go back for a.m. reasons but value for money isn't great.
Always an Interesting Place to Stay!
USExpat1nUKon 01/04/2017 12:53I stay here when I am in town on business. This last trip, I had a very nice room. It was spacious, very clean and the bed was very comfortable! The bathroom had a bathtub as well as a separate shower and included a hair dryer. My room overlooked the park. Be prepared for birds to wake you up early! It is a bit strange at first, but sure beats the noise of traffic! There is parking at the hotel and a decent restaurant. Prices for rooms are good and the staff is excellent.
