Very good Hotel!!

This is a very comfortable hotel, very nice amenities and great customer service. The rooms are huge and very clean, the beds are OK and the bathrooms also very spacious. I wish I had the time to check the pool and gym but unfortunately I did not. The location of the hotel is like in the in the middle of nowhere. this is not a hotel you run into, I guess this is why the hotel is so spacious. Anyways, the hotel is really good. Price is OK and excellent customer service.

Dutch treat in the forest!

We stayed here 3 nights with 6 people for a family reunion in The Netherlands. This Van der Valk was nearby and turned out to be a great choice, a very pleasant experience, and that in fairly dreary February.
The hotel is beautifully located in the National Park, enabling lovely forest walks right there, and the Drenthe province around if offers pretty driving or biking routes and interesting historic sites such as the old “hunebedden” or dolmen, ancient rock burial grounds.
Quite a few rooming options her too: we had a 2 bedroom for the 4 adult “kids” with us and a luxury sauna suite for ourselves, with a spacious living area, dining room and a stunning bathroom with an enormous Jacuzzi-style tub, separate double walk-in rainshower and a sauna big enough for a good handful of people.
The breakfast was more than generous, with all the cold items one could want from chocolate sprinkles to cold cuts, cheeses, fruits and yoghurts, and many hot items including a chef-staffed egg station.
The restaurant offers a pleasant lunch and dinner menu and the lounge had delicious bar snacks, cold and hot including “bitterballen”, with all the drinks one might want.
Not sure when we’ll do the next reunion but I’m voting for staying at this Van der Valk again!

This Van der Valk Hotel in Spier near Hoogeveen is situated near the highway, although it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere or, as you like, in the middel of nature. The hotel is spotless clean. I had a very spacious room on the first floor. Everything was good. Except for the empty minibar. I had a room-service dinner, which was nice, as one would expect from a Van der Valk restaurant. The hotel has free parking spots, amongst them some spots to load your hybrid car. Nothing to complain about...

This is a very comfortable hotel: large rooms, comfortably furnished, excellent pool, small gym, good restaurant. Ideal for business trips or couples. Situated in lovely countryside though as a consequence slightly remote from anywhere and a car is essential.

Spacious, peaceful and comfortable

This is a nice establishment. But you can only reach it on wheels, either taxi, private car, motorbike or bicycle The hotel had a large restaurant which is very popular with the locals because it offers good fare at a reasonable price. The buffet breakfast included in the rate was good.
The centrally air conditioned rooms are spacious with all modern amenities. The hotel is an ideal venue for walks or bicycle trips in the surrounding area of heaths interspersed with forest. The hotel has a well-equipped wellness centre and a heated indoor swimming pool.
The hotel is part of the well-known Dutch family chain van der Valk which strangely enough does not sport a falcon as its symbol but a toucan.
I find it difficult to find fault with this hotel, except that the two late night female bartenders were clueless although friendly.
