nice hotel but be prepared
Phi hon 14/10/2016 14:29We stayed in a luxurious room in the Old Castle. The room was very good. Large, good beds, wonderfull clean sanitair, Plenty of space for your cloths. Because the restaurant is in a different building you need to walk each morning in the rain and cold to this restaurant en back of course. It would be nice if there was a doormat in the room.
In the room they have a LG Television. It's reacts slow to the remote controle. In the TV Portal it says you can receive serveral tv stations. In facto only about ten German channels. Although the Portal says: French, Dutch, English channels: only the german ones you can receive. We made a remake about this and they would send some one. The day after we didn't here anything, so we went back,. Again: they would send some one. The third time we got from some one else the answer that they have problems. In a old review from last year (2015 !) on Tripadvisor I read the same complaint, So a problem??? They do not (want to?) tackle this, Strange that the portal says: welcome to Van der Valk Hotel Gladbeck, white you ar in Meinsdorf.
The hotel has not a lounge. The bar is closed on sunday en monday. Strange. The restaurant is more a canteen that a restaurant because dinner is in buffet. People keep on walking in the restaurant. Its restlessness. The food is poor. Vegatables are porridge. The service of the staff in the restaurant is perfect. They see when your plate is empty. They never go to the kitchen empty handed. I would like to see that more staff (waiters /waitresses) follow this rule. Compliments to the waitresses.

Very strange is that the hotel had only one very general folder for walking in the area. You can not use this because its too general and not very clear.. Also very strange: they do not have leaflets/books on the Strasse der Romantik. This starting point of this magnificent route is only 10 minutes drive away.
So the hotel is beautiful. If you like to book, be prepared. Do not book inlusive. Eat somewhere else. And prepare yourself at home on al the splendid surroundigs of this area.Lots of castles, churches, cloistres, beautiful towns etc etc
Nice surrounding but a long journey
yusuf aon 15/07/2016 13:44Stayed there for one night on partly business and partly leisure in early 2014. The room I got was okay, although a bit outdated. The wellness area was outdated. In general the hotel has a nice surrounding and a renovation is in place. The location is not so convenient as quite some travel time is necessary wherever you come from...

And a surprise: one liter of tab water (!) with ice (made, I suppose) with the same tab water was charged € 2,50 !!! Ridicolous !!
Super location. Excellent Hotel, good food. Lots of outdoor activities in the area.

The Hotel is next to a National park with walking and cycling trails. It is a very green area with lots of open spaces.
Food at the hotel is very good.

In the park are activities, but they are needing maintenance (outdoor chess board with hole and the like of it. The nature is amazing with the possibility for a long days walk almost without meeting other people. There are an old Castle and other tourist possibilitys
