What People are saying

Lovely hosts sharing their historic property

OJGSon 14/05/2017 12:33

We stayed in a room in the plantation house, antique furniture, clean, comfortable, and even wifi! We were greeted with tea and snacks, and taken on a tour of the gardens and rubber trees. It is a beautiful property in a lovely setting. Food was served at a communal table in the garden and was good quality home cooking featuring ingredients from their garden. We also went on a trip to see the tea plantations, visit a hilltop church and a monastery. If you want to experience the countryside and meet some lovely local people, this is the place to go!

Great place, excellent activities, awesome food and even better hosts!!!!!!!!!

Baby Mathew, Rani, Mayu and Akil made our stay especial. We arrived after 2 o'clock and a warm welcoming from everyone with a big lunch waiting for us was a great beginning. After that one of the guys working there, Akil, took us to a lovely Natural Rock Pool. After that another lovely meal in the patio. Next day we were lucky enough to see and join an annual hindu festival, in the afternoon we went to the tea plantation and a monastery. But the best part was in our second night, we were chatting with Baby Mathew about our trip and we had another night there with them. When we told him that our next step would be the Backwaters he said that we should go two days to experience the big backwater in a house boat and the little canals, lakes and villages over there. So, he called a friend in Allepey and we went to the Backwaters the next day. We didn't have to worry about anything, everything was booked and ready to go. It was a great gesture from him and we really appreciated.
Vanilla County is one of these places that you HAVE to go!!!!!
Thanks again!!!!!

Friendly hosts in Baby Matthew and his wife, who speak excellent English, staff young, fun and helpful, location tranquil. House immaculate and tents very comfortable - food home cooked and delicious. If your travelling round Kerala don't miss stopping here as homestay don't get any better than this!

Eco camping at the beautiful Vanilla County

londongeejayon 12/03/2017 12:16

My husband and I visited Vanilla County a few weeks ago for 2 nights. We stayed in the eco camping tents, just outside the house. It was a great experience - the tent has a comfortable bed, a fan, some tables for your things, a few power sockets and a mirror. Just outside is a bathroom with toilet, sink and open shower. We were comfortable in the tent and thought it was a unique experience.

The house itself is beautiful - we had our meals in the garden and in the dining room. The first day we had a nice tour of their garden, introducing us to all the things they grow - coffee, pepper, pineapples, cashews, papayas, and the list goes on. The second day we took a walk to the Rubber Plantation and our guide (the son of the host's friend) showed us how they tap for rubber and explained different trees and plants along the way.

It rained quite a bit while we were there, which was actually quite nice as we were relaxing. We watched the rain from the balcony of our tent. Unfortunately, this was the first rain in 6 months, so we were unable to go to the rock pools because they had dried up. The area was desperate for rain.

Communal meals with other guests were lovely - the food was great, at breakfast, lunch and dinner - a wide selection, vegetarian and meat and fish. We had to leave a bit early on our last day, so they accommodated us for an earlier breakfast.

The hosts were so lovely - they made us feel so welcome and taken care of. They helped us with everything we asked, brought us snacks in the afternoon, started a generator for us when the power went out during the rain - they are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Beautiful serene stay at Vanilla

We had a lovely time at the Vanilla Plantation. The owners are friendly, warm and welcoming. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed the tour of the spice garden and the home cooked meals. We stayed in the tents and they were exactly as described, had a fan, connecting bathroom, and great accommodations for a very reasonable price. Would def. recommend this homestay!
