Small castle with beautiful surroundings
ftravlleron 13/11/2016 22:20Spent a weekend here. The drive to the castle was very scenic, specially like the small village Röttle nearby with a small but beautiful waterfall. A pleasant surprise! We stayed in one of the two suites, suite #1. Very roomy and quite nicely decorated, though the walls were made of canvas so be careful and not pressing it. The bathroom needed renovation, and the floor was cold and uncomfortable when it was cold (floor heating would be nice that is quite standard in hotels in Sweden). We did not see the other suite #4, but from the photos it looks better. Had a dinner package there. Food was decent, but was a set menu without alternatives. No free choices of wines either, which was a bit strange. Anyway, pleasant experiences though it is not among the top castles we have stayed in Sweden.
Awesome castle with well preserved atmosphere
MrDanielssonon 12/09/2016 11:18Me and my entourage (6 friends and 2 babies) stayed for one night and absolutely loved it! This castle has a extremely well preserved atmosphere and interior, not new and over designed but more of a genuine feeling. We stayed in three rooms in the actual castle and each room had its own expression. I stayed in room nr. 2 and can really recommend it, lovely bathroom overlooking the greenery, great bed and overall nice vibes. There is a lot of public spaces in the castle where you can hang around and a lot of details you won't find elsewhere and at night there is live candles everywhere!! We had the luxury to have our 3 course dinner with wine package in the wine cellar which was perfect regarding our two babies who needed to join us. the food and wine was great and we had an amazing dinner. The staff is very accommodating, polite and friendly. I love this castle and would definitely stay here again!
Swedish country life at its best
Lars P. Ron 09/08/2016 17:49Have stayed at Västana Slott on several occasions and every single time I was impressed by the super friendly service, the outstanding food and the comfort. This is Swedish country life at its very best.
Very very good!
Gustaf Non 17/05/2016 22:39Historical place next to Golf course (a wedge from the clubhouse) with very nice and family like patron. Nicely decorated rooms and very clean. And the food, the food! Simply brilliant and perfect wine pairings at really reasonable prices. This time with my family, two younger kids who loved the Castle experience knights armour and all!
Can also recommend Gränna and Biking around Visingsö, a pleasant surprise all of it.
Vastana slott-a family-owned castle with fabulous history, their own ghost and superb board and lodging!
Rhodesianon 24/08/2015 09:06Vastana slott is owned by the noble family of von Otter. As a curiosity, the owner of Vastana was formerly required to change his name to Gyllensvaan until 1967! One of the potential title holders wanted to avoid this so badly that he ran away to Kenya and died there. There is a large monument in his honour in the back garden. The castle itself is very grand and filled with antiques. The rooms (suite 1 can be recommended) are very spacious and romantic. Dinner is excellent, and the wine package VERY generous. Breakfast is lovely. There is a hidden path that goes UNDER the motorway that runs through the grounds (and cannot be noticed from the castle-no noise pollution here) and You may go all the way down to the shores of lake Vättern. Very romantic! The Gränna golf course is right next to the castle and in excellent condition. The baron and baroness von Otter run the place themselves and the old baron von Otter sometimes entertains the guests with his presence. Everything is just what one could have wished for. We have an estate of our own and we really appreciate the effort the von Otter family has made to keep Vastana in the family AND let guests enjoy it. What is there not to like?
