What People are saying

An ideal one nighter

Natasha Hon 11/07/2017 16:35

We stayed for one night to break up the long drive home from Cornwall. We didn't want to spend the night in one hotel room with young children so the apartments seemed like an ideal solution.
The mansions are on the seafront and really easy to find. Each apartment gets a car parking space which is a bonus as parking isn't cheap.
We were impressed with the accommodation. We stayed in Pier View which has two bedrooms and a kitchen/lounger/diner. The decor is clean and fresh and the beds really comfortable.
As you are on the seafront it's ideally placed to explore the local area - the downside is it's pretty noisy at night. Because it was such a warm evening there was a lot of shouting long into the evening. If you're a light sleeper, then do pack some ear plugs.
Also, I would have loved black out blinds underneath the slatted blinds as the light was streaming in at 5am - which isn't ever ideal with young children. Sigh.
All in all though, it was great for our needs for the night and I'd stay again.

Weston Air Show

We have just returned from a weekend in Fisherman's Cottage, Victoria Mansions. We chose this apartment block because of its proximity to the beach, and the secure parking. Check in time is from 2:00 pm, although we were told via an email from the hotel that we could utilise the secure parking from the time of our arrival in the morning. This was to be a great advantage, as I do have some mobility issues. However, the parking area, which incidentally was not secure, was full on our arrival which necessitated us parking the car in a municipal carpark, at a cost of £10!! Fortunately we were able to move the car to the insecure hotel carpark during the first evening of our two night stay.
Fisherman's Cottage has a small courtyard, perfect for sitting and relaxing to watch the world go by! Sadly this is not a possibility, as cars from all and sundry, and not from guests at the hotel, park like sardines on the pavement! So the view is restricted to car bumpers and wheels. How much nicer this would be if the hotel made the pavement a no parking area. The promenade was buzzing with activity, this being the weekend of Weston Airshow, which would have been good to observe from the security of this little courtyard, had our view not been completely obliterated by these lumps of steel!
When we entered the small lounge, there was an overpowering smell of cleaning liquids, and an undertone of dampness, but it was a gloriously hot weekend, and the open front door and windows helped to freshen the room. Though small, the lounge was well equipped with seating, coffee tables, TV, radio etc, sufficient for just two people.
The kitchen was fine, fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave etc, and crockery, cutlery and glasses, again for just two people. For some reason there was only one kitchen stool, and the breakfast bar had been chopped in half, presumably to make room for the rather large fridge/freezer. The crockery that we used seemed to be new, and everything within the kitchen was clean.
Fairly steep stairs, with a twist at the top, led to a double bedroom. There was no bannister, which we felt was an unfortunate omission, and hand prints on the walls illustrated that the walls were being used for support, in the absence of a bannister. The large double bed was comfy, lighting good, and there was a pleasant view though the sash windows.
The bathroom was huge! Lovely walk in shower, big bath, adequate towels and complimentary toiletries. Generally very clean, although when we removed the long metal plug from the bathroom sink it was full of grime and mildew.
The staff whom we met were all exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
Noise at night was a problem, from the bars and restaurants that are very close by. The old fashioned single glazing does not mute any of the noise, at all!
We would stay here again, mainly because of its position, although it is expensive, and even more so when you have to pay for car parking!
Wifi is okay.
The photographs of the apartments are not totally a true reflection, from what we saw in reality, in Fisherman's Cottage.

Lovely but loud

Stayed here with my family and although the apartment was lovely and clean and the staff were fabulous. It was so very loud with all the music and traffic going by until very late which isn't ideal with little ones. If the noise isn't a problem though it is a lovely place to stay

Clean and functional apartments

The apartment was very clean - the shower screens in particular deserve a mention, they were spotless!!

Plenty of space and everything you need for a short stay with a well equipped kitchen, including tea and coffee, and hairdryer. The sofas in the living space are very small so not the most comfortable.

The only real issue was the very squeaky floorboards from the apartment upstairs which woke us up 🙈and were so loud it sounded like they were in the room with us!

However, the location is great and the secure parking a real bonus.

No compasssion

I reluctantly write negative reviews on hotels or places to visit, as I feel that individuals have so many different views on things. However I feel that on this occasion I have to write to say how bitterly disappointed I was by the response from the manager.
I booked in to the hotel and very quickly after received a call to say that there was a family emergency at home and my mother would be coming to collect me within an hour or two. I promptly went back to the reception and explained and to enquirer if I could be refunded full or part of my fee. The person I spoke to said that This may be possible but to e mail.
My mother arrived in 2 hours, on checking out she asked again and the lady explained that this was a possibility however we would need to e mail the general manager.
The following day I did this and received a response saying that as I had been in the room for two hours and it could not be let out, I could not have any money back. Whilst I understand the logistics behind this I would suggest that the people running this hotel should think outside of the box and realise that the emergency must have been one of great significance for me to check out so quickly. I realise that I used one glass during my stay that would have needed putting away but other than that the room was unused. I have to say that though they offered a 20% reduction in another visit, I will not be accepting not returning here. It may be a nice place but it clearly just takes money and is lacking in every day compassion that I feel is essential in running any establishment.
