What People are saying
Fair value, clean enough. Noisy intersection. Close to groceries and McDonalds
Dantinion 16/05/2017 23:25Here are the negatives: the room had a strange odor, not smoke just strange. The carpet felt dirty and gritty when you walked on it barefoot. There was no stopper in the bathroom vanity so to shave and wash up you keep the water running for rinsing.
On the positive side the beds were OK, the TV was an old tube version. The ac worked ok. No elevator.
Big negative - the rooms near the end don't get free internet.
Just did the job for me
vladimir70on 26/01/2017 18:55This place was right for me. It was sitting next to a bus stop which enabled me to have short rides to downtown (and through their central bus depot to all other destinations) since I do not drive. The room was clean enough: tired a little, bed linen washed millions times, but clean. I was put in the room above the router room (so was I told) and the wi-fi was actually great. Some guest were noisy and slammed their doors all the time, but that it is not up to inn managers really. TV worked fine and had lots of channels.

They were very strict and wanted photo ID of my friend traveling with me. What type of clientele did they normally deal with? I felt like a drug dealer. Clerk was friendly yet not especially warm. Very by-the-book. Took some small talk to loosen her up. Room #1 smelled like smoke and lemon cleaner. NO SWING LATCHES ON THE DOORS!!!! None of the rooms i was told. Any person with a properly programmed emergency key could override the deadbolt in a heart beat. Very disconcerting. Room two only smelled of strong chemicals. No alarm clock. Ugly bedding that I didn't want to touch. Awful pillows. Plain Jane. TUBE TV! Thought I had gone back in time. But decor was not hideous and it had a quaint mixed with drug den feel. Won't be returning. Price was CHEAP so you get what you pay for.
Wonderful staff and room
Rebecca Bon 21/12/2016 17:42The staff is an important part of the stay for me. They are top notch and I can't say enough good about them. Kind caring and considerate! The room is beautiful and the bed oh so comfortable! I stayed Thanksgiving and have booked for this weekend for Christmas! I will continue to stay at this fine establishment when I visit Des Moines!
Great value for the money!
Kathy Kon 25/09/2016 21:47I stay here twice a year and have for years. Some rooms have a fridge, microwave and coffeepot. The Village Inn Restaurant gives a 10% discount on food to guests. The non-smoking rooms truly are that, not just rooms with ashtrays removed. I am smell sensitive and require a clean room for my sensitivities, and they go above and beyond to help meet my needs. The staff is always friendly and courteous. I recommend it!
