What People are saying

A place we will never forget

Iluvtravellng88on 14/06/2017 22:07

This is a luxurious hotel hidden away in the hills of the Berkshires, particularly in the quaint little town of Lenox. The grounds are beautiful, the architecture sumptuous! The home is truly antique---but what a luxurious antique---a French country chateau built on a lovely piece of land. A gift from an American industrial tycoon to his lucky daughter as a wedding gift at the turn of the 20th century. No expense was spared as you will see in all the marble floors, giant detailed fireplaces in almost every room, high ceilings, long halls, lovingly refinished furnishings and all the exterior architecture.

Since it was once a private country home, there is a long private driveway to get there. And there are only a handful of rooms to stay at this "hotel" so that means there is tons of privacy, quiet and never any lines or crowds at all. you almost have this place to yourself during non-dining hours. when I walked the hall, sat in the reading room or got ready for bed, I could almost pretend that I really lived there. It was that private and cozy overall experience.

The staff all were surprisingly sweet and sincere. Many of these young people are from around the world and were eager to give you a lovely stay. The first night we were there a blizzard kept many patrons from coming to the dinner seating at the restaurant. Since we had a room there we were lucky enough to enjoy an almost empty dining room. We sat close by the fire but not too close to be too hot. The staff was extremely attentive and truly excited and happy to share the delicious food and drink. I got to taste the diverse cheese platter (American and European)... and the chef kept on sending free samples of savory and sweet food to our table, in addition to our entree order. I don't drink alcohol most of the time, but they are proud of their wine list. And for dessert, I did have a glass of my favorite port wine---Grahams.

When we left I and my husband felt very pampered and happy. Because we moved, we may never get to stay here again, but this place is one to remember! Truly a wonderful treat.

Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Berkshires

We had a great time staying at the Wheatleigh Hotel last weekend and amazed by the great customer service that we received. Everyone we met was so competent and knowledgeable about the area and a special thanks goes out to Brigitta and Markus. From arrival to the hotel, valet service, not to mention we were greeted with a glass of champagne, breakfast up until we departed everything was on point. The room was so clean, truly impressed. Thank you for a great weekend!!!

Beautiful property but you need to know a few things

Stayed at Wheatleigh over the past winter weekend. The property is stunning and the staff is very friendly and competent. (Special thanks to Julie in reservations)

You literally feel like you are transported to Europe when you walk in to the place and the valet takes your car. The rooms are extremely luxurious with high ceilings and comfortable beds.

But this is where the fantasy ended for us unfortunately.

Wheatleigh allows kids and dogs. We love kids and love dogs but not when spending $1000 a night. The dogs were barking and the kids were running around the hallways. Door were being slammed constantly, btw kids wake up pretty early apparently.

There was even a baby monitor sitting on the grand staircase on full blast one evening...

We mentioned this upon checkout and was told that we should "come back in the summer, there's less kids" and we should have called and complained while we were there and they would have spoken to the "mother". We were also told we were the only people that complained and that unfortunately our room was sandwiched between a room with a dog and a room with multiple kids.

This was truly disappointing. Management didn't offer to compensate or make any accomodation for us for because we didn't bring it up during our stay.

So --- my advice would be this --- if you stay at Wheatleigh 1.) Rent the whole place out so you don't have to deal with other peoples kids 2.) Bring your own kids / dogs and bring your friends and act like you own the place 3.) "Stay in the summer" ?!?!?

It's a real shame as I could see ourselves returning to this beautiful property if this issues hadn't affected us. It's a 3 hour drive from nyc, the food is top notch and the service is out of this world as well as a stunning transporting accommodation.

Hope that helps

Amazing personalized service!!!!!

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by 3 very friendly staff. They did the normal things like park our car and take care of our luggage, but they also brought us champagne, had use relax in the lobby and inquired about what would make the weekend ideal (local hikes, shops, food interests, etc). They really went down to details (not just which paper we would like in the morning, but what time delivered, and style of coffee with that). The noted my interest in wine and gave us a personal tour of their wine cellar. During dinner, the most friend server, Sydrandt Windell, went out of his way to explain dishes, make sure we were happy with all, and was very helpful with menu choices. Also, he always had a smile and cheery way about him, keeping up with good lighthearted discussions and making us laugh several times. Everywhere we went on the grounds, people knew our names. At night upon returning to the room, not only was there a turndown of the bed, but bottled water on napkins at bedside, chocolates, all clothes picked up and neatly placed on the chairs, shoes placed in a row on the hearth of the fireplace, lights low in the bathroom, all shades drawn for the morning, tv remove placed on the night table, etc. Just seems like anything typical of a great stay was thought of ahead of time and done so we really didn't have to ask for anything; moreover all the touches just added to the feeling of being well cared for and thought about. Allowed us to feel super special. The general manager, Marc Wilhelm, was about as welcoming and down to earth as any I've ever met. He clearly wants your experience to be remembered, and without any pretense. It is all about relaxing and fulfilling your needs as to what you want out of the experience. We felt VERY welcomed, and very well cared for.
Also, the grounds are gorgeous, the rooms beautiful and huge, and the dinner and dining room phenomenal. It is clear why this is rated as a leading small hotel of the world. I absolutely agree with that rating/ranking and would highly recommend this as a romantic get away experience for anyone looking to relax and be well cared for. Kudos to all the staff at Weightleigh for making the stay remarkable and achieving an extraordinary atmosphere. We will be back for sure.
