Great Value
indyvagabondon 17/06/2017 20:17Older property but if you don't need the Ritz, it is a great stay. The rooms are small from the 70's but focus on your trip, not the room. Fresh finishes. Great manager, Marie! Discount for veterans. The rooms are quiet with balconies on the back side overlooking a nice lawn.
Very Nice Accomodation
capecodken2015on 17/06/2017 15:45Not too distant from the hustle and bustle of Boothbay Harbor, the White Anchor is a quiet respite yet close to all that is offered in Mid Coast Maine. The rooms, although small, are clean and comfortable. Staff is helpful and friendly, they even installed a small fridge in our room without our request, since we were staying three days. Limited amenities: no breakfast although there is coffee, tea and soft drinks at the office and there is a small restaurant for breakfast next door. No hair dryers or alarm clocks. Close to train museum and nearby Botanical Gardens (A must see). Overall a pleasant stay at a reasonable price which we hope to use again when we are in the area.
Great Stay!
Mark Fon 08/06/2017 02:37I stayed here for four nights visiting family in the area. This is definitely mode of an "inn" type place versus a hotel, but it was very clean and everything worked really well. There's about 25 units on the property and if you get a room on the back row, you'll get a balcony with two chairs and a view to the backyard, which is a quiet, green area. Inside, there's a flatscreen TV with satellite and a bathroom with a good shower. You'll park right on the grass in front of your unit (if you're in the back row). Wifi is provided, but at least in the room I was in, it was spotty and rarely worked at anything more than a choppy snail pace, but you're most likely not going here to surf the net for hours. The owner lives on site and is very friendly and helpful if you need it.
As most others share, there is a "variety" store next door- a husband and wife team run the store and cook a variety of breakfast foods as well as sandwiches, pizzas, and fried foods. I stopped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast and the place was hopping with locals.
As a runner, you're out of luck here if you're looking for a treadmill. However, there are tons of small roads off the main highway that will give you plenty of miles of running- my favorite one was going south on 27, turning right on Adams Pond, then taking the next right onto Dover. This is a mostly desolate road that goes through fields and woods, wraps around to another road, and spills out onto another desolate road that one could take for ions. Be prepared for hilly terrain though.
The place is rather isolated- you're about 10 miles from Wiscasset and about five from Boothbay Harbor- putting a microwave and small refrigerator in each room would have significantly enhanced the experience, but aside from this small ask, the place is great and should definitely be booked if you're looking for a great place to stay for cheap while visiting the area.
Friendly, clean, good experience
laurenceb284on 28/08/2016 02:38Independent motel a few miles out of the Harbor, at a great rate. Owner had some good ideas for things to see. Room had a small back porch overlooking a lawn, and in the morning a small flock of turkeys walked by. Great overall experience.
Great location, great place!
natchezmson 24/08/2016 14:08From the welcome to departure the White Anchor was just perfect. Clean cabins, comfy bed, and I know this may sound picky but the water pressure for the shower was really good. How many times have I stayed somewhere that the shower was like a leaky faucet? Unless you want to pay for luxurious accommodations, this is a great place to stay in Boothbay.
