What People are saying

A much better stay

SammieDIon 05/07/2017 01:20

We stayed here a year ago and thought that we would give it a second chance. I am glad we did. As we were out all day for our 4 day stay we only had breakfast. Friday and Monday breakfasts were plentyful saturtday and sunday were megre to say the least. That is my only negative for this visit. This time round the staff seemed switched on to their duties. Happy and attentive. A special thank you to the lady (Blonde hair in a ponytail) that works in the dinning area. Gave a warm welcome to all with a laugh and a smile and to the lovely receptionist (Blonde curly hair). There were even pens on the reception this time round.

Not for the food.

Of the many places to go for a Sunday Roast from Rottingdean to Peacehaven, the White Horse provides the blandest, most uninspiring plate-full you could find.

The broccoli tasted like it had been sat in a boiling pan since before the chef had arrived on site (and was a shade of yellow that Sunny-D would be proud of), the potatoes like they had only been introduced to heat for the minimal legal amount of time to be serveable, and the "mash" I'm not even sure if it was potato. There were supposedly carrots and parsnips on the plate, too, and indeed there were things of vaguely the right shape and colour, but all taste had been removed by the time they were served on the plate so I wouldn't want to jump to conclusions. The meat was acceptable, but I was glad for the flavour by time I got to it so may be remembering it too fondly.

The three points out of five that I'm giving here are for the quality of the ale, the panorama surrounding their lovely terrace, and the fact that it's a sunny day.

Come here for the views, not for the food.

OK "could do with a few upgrades/changes"

We booked 2 rooms with the white horse and although we had a lovely stay there are a few things that could be done to improve the comfort of their guests. When we arrived we were greeted by the hotel manager who was lovely explained everything that we needed to know. Upon entering the room the room was very spacious and light (room 6), however little things like the outside windows needed a good clean and the net curtains could have done with a good wash. The rooms were very warm and with our room being situated on the sea front we thought it would be lovely to open the windows and have some nice sea air but unfortunately there was only 1 window out of 6 that opened which should be addressed (fire safety maybe?). The bar was only open until 11pm and i feel that maybe this should be addressed as people who staying here are surely on a weekend away and therefore i feel that this is slightly on the early side. I felt that the evening staff were quite rude and not very welcoming and perhaps they should think of an alternative place of work if customer service isn't their priority. I feel with a little bit of modernisation and a good clean this hotel would be fantastic, i would stay here again but only if things were improved. Please note that we still had a lovely weekend away however i feel that the prices should reflect the standards of the hotel and service and for what we paid i was left feeling a little underwhelmed.

Lunch stop

We were on our way to visit family in Kent and decided to stop for lunch. It was tipping it down so couldn't eat outside on the terrace. However we found a table and ordered our food. The staff were friendly and the food was great. Would recommend eating here.

Shocking

Very overpriced. Rooms very old and tired, pipes so noisy they woke us up every time any other rooms used the taps. Horrible shower curtain that wraps itself around you. Breakfast was a farce. Waited 45mins to get food. We're told we couldn't sit outside on the terrace then the waitress let other people go out there. Service was dire. Forgot everything we ordered and when I said we'd been waiting ages she disagreed with me. Lots of other people were complaining. I would definitely not stay here again especially at these prices. Avoid avoid.
