A good night's sleep at the Novum Select followed by breakfast in Old Spandau.
big_w_reviewson 13/04/2017 22:01Located in easy traveling distance to the Olympic Stadium by U-Bhan the hotel is great value for money, with nicely designed rooms. At £40 from a mainstream hotel online agent there is very little to pick on. There was a small cafe/restaurant/bar but it seemed a slightly sterile. The next morning I walked into Old Spandau where I enjoyed a very tasty but reasonably priced breakfast Al Fresco in the town square with the sound of the traditional clock ringing out a traditional tune in the background.
Nice hotel, not central but close to Exhibition Centre
Surzenon 10/03/2017 20:08I was in Berlin for business and this 4**** with a double name (on the exterior still shows the old name 'Winters Hotel') was my choice for my 3 nights stay.
The hotel is only 10 minutes from Messe Sud, the entrance to the Exhibition centre where I spent most of my time, so nicely located for me; further more the S-Bahn station is literally across the road (line 5), so good for my purpose...not sure however it would be good for a leisure tourist, unless they wish to spend most of the time in Spandau, which is only approx 15 mins walk away, or one stop on the S-Bahn.
The room I got was on the 12th floor, spacious with a good desk, 2 very comfortable chairs, lights & heating all fine - view not that interesting from my room window, however it gets more interesting during Breakfast time as this is served on the top floor (unusual for an hotel), with an amazing view of Berlin!
Back to the room, bathroom very good, spacious shower cubicle and very good bathroom indeed, only note small towels provided which is a shame, so there's room for improvement here...
Breakfast, aside from the location on the top floor, which is absolutely great, also the actual choice of food is not bad; again room for improvement is on the coffee as it was not the best, and even the ordered cappuccino was really of very low standard and not very good at all...
Staff helpful and always very busy in reception, a good touch is to have coffee & pastries available to everyone while in lounge, even if I am not sure if they were 'offered' while you wait, or payable as I did not try myself.
All in all a good hotel, even if around the area closest to it there's not much to see and/or do unless you move to Spandau proper across the river.
That's all.
First trip away as a couple!
KellieMorrison 22/02/2017 20:58So.. as it was our first trip away together and was my 21st birthday surprise from my boyfriend, of course we were very excited!!!! He had gone all out, got us an executive room with a view just to make the trip extra special. We had pulled up outside in our taxi from the airport to find that the hotel looked amazing. We checked in and then made our way to our room. There are 16 floors and we were on the 11th. We got to our room to then find that it was the smallest bedroom we had ever seen, there are prison cells that have more room than ours did. You had to move side ways just to fit past the bed to get to the bathroom. (and I can assure you, we are not over weight!!) But we thought to just leave it and make the most of the holiday. We had a king size bed but both had a separate single quilt. We ordered room service that evening and they were very quick and efficient. We both went for Rump Steak for around 23 Euros, but definitely wasn't worth the price. We also had a mini bar in the room, with a list of the prices for each drink included. We drank from the mini bar most days just a can of Coke and Fanta. Half way through our trip, we hired a vehicle.. to which when we came back to the hotel that evening after picking the car up, we of course asked if the hotel had parking, to which they did and they informed us that there would be a charge (which we knew). The lady on Reception said that we had to pay for that, along with our mini bar and Room Service expenses that evening. Later on that evening after we had got ready for our dinner out and made our way to Reception to pay our bill. The gentleman on the desk told us that we didn't have to pay all of this until the day we check out. The next day came and we had a phone call from reception asking to come down. When we went down, there was a different lady on reception that we had not seen before. She demanded us to pay our bill but was VERY VERY VERY RUDE!!! The way she spoke to us was disgusting, we told her about the gentleman saying we could pay on check out and she just laughed in our faces and tried to make out we were liars.
Cleaners: In the bathrooms, it says if you need new towels then to place your dirty ones on the floor and new ones would be provided.
Our dirty towels were just folded up and put back onto the radiator and was not given clean ones. Also they have no clue on how to hoover!!!!!
For the amount of money that was spent on this hotel for only 6 nights, it was not worth one penny. Their staff's customer service skills are absolutely disgusting, they are rude, abrupt and money grabbers!! The only good points from this hotel is the beautiful view that you get of Berlin, you are right next to a train station that goes every where you could possibly think of and the Spandau Arcaden is a 10 minute walk away that had every thing you could need there!!
Good value with nice view
Sergio Con 25/01/2017 07:42The hotel, located in Spandau West Berlin is around 25 minutes to centre Berlin. The hotel is opposite to the station Stresow. The area surrounding the hotel is industrialish but if you walk 10/15 minutes you will be in Spandau. The transport links to the city are very good. You got Olimpiamstadium around the corner from the hotel, just 2 stops and Charlottenburg a further 3 stops up, very good for shopping. The rooms are nice and clean, nice minibar, good bed and good selection of TV channels if you want to watch while relaxing. There is so nice view, we stayed on the 12th and could see a lot of the city. The breakfast is on the 16th floor, there is a good selection of cold meat, cheeses, juices, breads, hot meat and hot drinks. I believe is worth the money. In general, if you don't mind travelling to town, this hotel is a good choice. Enjoy Berlin!!
Good view
FredKlein1104on 19/12/2016 19:11I was in the restaurant Spiegelturm
Nice restaurant with a scenic view from above Spandau. Tonight was live music. Food was ok, but took long. I had the rump steak at 22Eur. Seen better ones, but was ok.
