A good venue for Sunday lunch

We were staying with friends in Andorra and they suggested we go for Sunday lunch at Xalet, the restaurant linked to Hotel Montane in Arinsal. The meal was from a set menu , a main course and dessert plus a glass of beer or wine. The meal was typical of a Sunday lunch that is served in restaurants in the UK. The food was well cooked, served hot and appetising. There was a good selection of vegetables and the service was very efficient. The staff are friendly and courteous and the restaurant was well furnished and quite spacious.
We have not stayed in the hotel, but talking to some of their guests who were staying at the hotel when we visited the restaurant it appears it is a good place to stay and is near to the local ski routes.

Good hotel & location

The hotel is really clean and our rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels and a change of sheets 1/2 way through the week. We also had a room at the front so had great views of the mountain.

It's in a great location, less than a 5 minute walk from the gondola station. The hotel does have a ski storage room however we did rent a ski locker at the gondola station to make life easier for ourselves. The locker to rent was €55 for the week which we thought was more than worth it.

There are only a couple of negatives, but nothing that would put me off staying again. Firstly the food, the buffet had hot and cold freshly cooked food every day so can't really complain. However there wasn't a massive range of food so especially at dinner, if you didn't like the main course, then it was just salad and bread for you.

Secondly, and this may have just been bad luck on our part, the walls seemed quite thin and we were next door to a particularly loud family who spanned 3 rooms so there was lots of door banging and loud conversations in the hallway.

All in all, we had a great week. The hotel is clean and warm and great location which is really all you want from a ski holiday.

Excellent location and friendly hotel

Just returned (5th February 2017) from staying at the Xalet Montana in Soldeu. The hotel is well located being 200m downhill from the Gondola Station on the main street, which in ski boots takes only 5 minutes to walk. The hotel is small to medium with rooms on three floors, the front of hotel rooms overlook the main street and towards the mountain so you can see the condition each morning. There can be a little noise from the main street, but for the week we stayed it was negligible, if you want to sacrifice the mountain view for guaranteed peace and quiet ask for a rear room. The rooms are of medium size with a good-sized wardrobe, table and chair, a safe, TV, walk in shower, toilet and sink plus hairdryer. Rooms were cleaned daily. The ski locker room is small in terms of changing into boots but there is no problem using the reception area which is also the only access to the ski locker offering improved security for your kit, there are also heated boot driers. There is a large comfortable lounge with bar and TV on the ground floor, drink prices being reasonable for a hotel of this size. The dining room is in the basement and the meal arrangement is buffet style. The food was plentiful and there was a good choice of salad and starters, a meat, fish and vegetarian option every night plus assortment of fruit and desserts. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety and good choice of cooked items. The wine prices were reasonable with a choice started from around 12€ upwards, I drank the Sangre de Torro at 12.50€ and found it good value. The staff in the restaurant Christina and Julia were very friendly and efficient, we had a large group (32) of Danes staying who chose to eat at the same time and we never waited more than a few minutes for a table. The reception staff also deserve a mention, Karina and Chantal were knowledgeable and always willing to help. There is small pool and spa facilities which I did not use, I believe there is a charge of 10€ per use of the spa. Away from the hotel down the hill (50m) there is an excellent Tapas bar if you want to sample some local cuisine. The Bars we frequented in the main was the ‘Aspen’ 75m up the main street, good for watching sport. The Harp 100m up the hill was good for live music every night as was the Code Bar 125m up the main street, the prices were similar in all three bars with Guinness being 5€. Soldeu is very compact and one does not have to go far for anything. Overall I would recommend the Xalet Montana as a good value choice for skiing in Soldeu.

Friendly and accommodating management

For the price, this hotel is comfortable and the meals are nice enough. It is also centrally located, with reasonable access to the main lift, stores and bars. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. The only weakness is that it can be a little noisy in the small hours, but this is probably true of most of the hotels on the main road through the resort. Also, the spa is small and costs 10 euros, which is expensive for its size.

Traditional Hotel

We stayed over the new year at the Xalet Montana. Very friendly staff nothing is too much trouble. Lovely traditional feel to the hotel. Excellent quality of food and accommodation.
Although small pool area the jacuzzi and sauna are fine. The rooms are very clean and fresh towels everyday although on the small side lovely views of the slopes .
If a change of food is needed leave the hotel and turn right there is an amazing Tapas Bar - nothing plush portacabin outside but the Tapas is to die for - please try the pigcheeks with chocolate yes chocolate amazing.
