WE spent 2 nights celebrating a birthday! One of the main reasons we choose this venue is because it is "Dog Friendly"!! The drive is easy from Boston and once arriving at The York Harbor Inn , R&R begins immediately. The Building we stayed in is the pet friendly building and is beautiful! Once a private home just warm and inviting. Our room was gorgeous, décor lovely and they even provided a large dog bed, treats, and dog bowls! So our pug felt welcomed too! Dinner was DEVINE in the main dining room with excellent wait service on both Saturday and Sunday night! There was also music in the bar area both nights as well. Edie, The Hostess is fantastic! She is so welcoming and made sure we had a lovely table and continued to check in on is throughout our dinner which was most impressive! She is a true people person and just delightful!! This spot is ideal for a Weekend get away and lefty both of us feeling relaxed and impressed!! Cant wait to return!
We have stayed here a few times and had a lovely stay on each occasion. Staff are freindly & it feels like home from homr.
The breakfast is a let down (not a great selection & not great quality) which is why we didnt stay here on our last visit to the area.
We stayed at the York Harbor Inn to celebrate the wedding of our dear friend's daughter. Friday evening, June 9, 2017, we had dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the server, Melissa could not have been better. Saturday was the wedding and again the food was fantastic and the wait staff above par. Paul and Cheyenne and their team did a great job. We decided to stay in Maine for another evening and when we thought of a place for dinner YHI was our choice. Edie our host was kind and gracious and our server Sophie was wonderful, attentive and so cheerful. This will be a place where we will go whenever we are in York.
I saw a piece on Chronicle on York, Maine. My family and I go to York Yearly but never stayed overnight so I thought, herer is a great chance to visit all that were featured on Chronicle. More so, Groupon had it so I bought it through groupon and my husband and i decided to go there for our anniversary. I made dinner reservation at 1637 restaurant, one of the featured pieces. Two days prior to our arrival, Open table send us a note that the restaurant cancelled our reservation.Called the restaurant and was told that they have a function that night and we can eat downstairs at the Cellar pub. It is the same menu. Imagine celebrating your anniversay at a pub after making dinner reservertion for a romantic evening. Disappointed I made reservation elsewhere (which turned out to be so great) and kept the hotel reservation. We checked in and was given an average room instead of a deluxe room (which I read in my Groupon) so I asked why and, Nicole, who barely greeted us upon arrival, told us that that was the one I bought. So my husband asked if we can upgrade to the deluxe room instead and she told us that there were no more rooms available. Now, we travel all the time and have been to a lot of hotels and we are foodies so we love to dine out. Nicole didn't even put in an effort to say let me see what I can do. She flat out said there were none. With 4 cottages, we found that a little hard to beleive but took her at her word and went up to our room. The room was average to say the least, 1 king size bed, a chair, a table, a TV, the bothroom sink was in the room so when my husband was using it, I couldn't hear the TV, the shower is very small and the shower even smaller. When you open the door to get in the room, someone behind you can see everything. The noise level is unbelievable and our view was that of a tool shed. Well, we're here so let's make the best of it. We decided to eat at the cellar pub for lunch to see how it would have been for dinner and on our way down we got lost and here comes Paul to the rescue. What a customer focus man. He welcomed us. We told him that we are here because he was featured in Chronicle and he proceeded to tell us where to go and even told us to come back to him if we needed anything. At check out, Liam asked me how everythign was and I said OK... he asked OK for the room...I said OK overall...he apologized but never asked me why was it just ok but then hoped that I would come back so they could make it right. How do you make something right when you don't know what's wrong.... he did elude to the dinning room though... did we get that room because we bought it on groupon? To me, Groupon is like restaurant week. I get to sample at low cost so I can come back or not come back. Here is what I would have like to see happened: block out all dinner time on Open table for that day, upgrade us to a luxury room to make up for cancelling our dinner reservation.
I always like to start with the positive which would be the Inn itself. The location had beautiful views of the water and if you chose to walk across the street it was a park like setting with benches and a beach down below. The Inn had quite a history and the hostess from the restaurant told us all about how the Inn had arrived at it's current spot. Unfortunately on to the negative. Beware of room #10. The old adage, you get what you pay for popped into my mind when I saw our tiny room. We purchased a deal on Travelzoo and it was definitely a deal sized room. The real issue though was that the room was located right above the reception area and you could hear all conversations through the floor. The gentleman who worked the front desk during the overnight hours had an extremely loud voice and unbelievably he talked constantly all night long. We heard all the conversations that he had with everybody! After 2 nights we left extremely exhausted because of lack of sleep. Needless to say the York Harbor Inn will no longer be on our vacation list.
