Hotel Marina Victoria is in a great position if you want a base from which to travel to Gibraltar or Tangier in Morocco. It is opposite the port and where the buses stop from Faro in Portugal. It is great value, clean and the staff, especially Miguel are very helpful. It does not have meals, but there is a little supermarket about five minutes on the left as you leave the hotel. Also lots of cafes and take away places.
You can catch a bus to Gibraltar for a few euros. Ask at the hotel where the bus station is, only a five minute walk. When you get off the bus at the frontier, walk through passport control and into Gibraltar, you don’t need to catch a bus to the city centre as it is a nice walk (across the airport runway, where they close the road when planes land or take off).
The ferry to Tangier leaves from the port across from the hotel. If going to Tangier, the easiest way is to book with FRS ferries. Go down into the main terminal, ignore all the booths on the sides and FRS is over in the left hand corner. An open return ticket gives you a discount. They will ferry you by bus to Tarifa and get the fast ferry to Tangier. A great place to stay in Tangier is the Hotel Continental.(see review).
The train station is also opposite the bus station.
Overall a great base for travel around the Med.

Three nights & a mixed reaction

The good news is the room was clean & the staff were reasonably helpful. The bad news was this is a dockland location so unless you are catching the ferry & are broad minded its one to miss. The location isn't very nice but the hotel is inexpensive & the bus station is 400 yards away & the buses are modern & air conditioned. A 45 minute ride to La Linea/Gibraltar cost only 2 euros 45 one way. The free wifi was good. The walls must be thin because nearby activity was extremely explicit. Coming back to the hotel at night from the bus station we passed through a group of "ladies" a stones throw from the hotel. There are cafes either side & in front which are halal & alcoholic drink is unavailable. Not a place to take your wife or family.

    Cheap and cheerful

Perfect hotel for the ferry to morocco
Not the most salubrious area and all the bars in the area do not serve alcoholic drinks
It's a little like being in down town tangier
The parking is near but not cheap and you need to get the ticket stamped at the hotel
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful the room a little rundown but clean enough
    The beds were too hard
All in all you get a clean cheap room with easy access to ferry but wouldn't stay again because of the seedy surroundings

    Perfect for overnight before/after ferry

    Martti J on 12/06/2017 20:08

This is a perfect choice for an overnight before of after ferry ride across the strait. It's located literally just across the road from the pedestrian gate if the port.

I understand some of the varying reviews as this is not a luxury hotel, but room was ok and most importantly spotlessly clean. Soundproofing was not the best as we heard conversation from next room.

There are nice and cheap food options around.

    Excellent value for money!

    An old but comfortable hotel.....

After staying in Moroccan budget hotels over the past month, I was looking for a little more elegance and comfort, my mum had stayed in the Marina Victoria some years ago and said it was okay, so conveniently located just across the road from the ferry port I walked in and approached the front desk, the room rates were prominently displayed at reception, so no tedious Moroccan-style haggling over money, a single would be 28 euros for me which was quite a good deal.

Reception staff were helpful and friendly and spoke English, another pleasant surprise because my command of the Spanish language is rather limited, my room was on the fourth floor with lots of stairs to negotiate, but fortunately there is a four-person lift. My room had the two windows facing the rear of the building, so no nice view of the activities in the street below, but for a one night stopover this was acceptable. There is no food served in the hotel but there are two Moroccan-owned cafeterias on either side of the hotel front door, from previous experience one of these, Cafe Goya, was guilty of overcharging on the bill, a common Moroccan malpractice, so I used the cafeteria at the ferry port which is open 24/7.

My room was spotlessly clean with two comfortable single beds and private bath and toilet, and above all working electricals, a pleasant change from Moroccan budget accommodations!
