Haveli Charm

chrishartley1974 on 16/11/2017 16:16

This hotel is a fairly priced, well placed and an interestingly different stay. Rooms were clean enough and spacious, though they have many kinds at different prices. The rambling layout of the haveli and potted plants gives the hotel an away from it all feel however Jaipur is a busy town and you can hear the life of the city in most places. The hotel is off the main road which helps. Location is great, walkable to palace etc if your up for it and the local bus to Amer fort is just outside. Buffet breakfast will set you up for the day but is extra, though not expensive for what you get. All in all a good place with good staff.

I Cannot Understand The Good Reviews

We arrived at the hotel well after midnight which is not a good time, eventually the door was unlocked to admit us with an audible sigh from the staff member, who never even bothered to say hello. First impression. Outside of the hotel it just stinks of feces a smell you will encounter a lot in parts of Jaipur. But here it's particularly strong, probably due the the fact a lane not far from the hotel door seemed to be being used as a toilet by locals too lazy to use one of the many local conveniences. Or, it could be the family of pigs living down another nearby lane.Or maybe the pack of local dogs plus of course the ever present cows. The hotels reception area is just basic and unkempt. It looks like it has never been dusted and needs a good coat of paint. The banister on the stairway is quite simply filthy, what should be white is black, with years of accumulated dirt. We were led to our room, this building is old and the walkways are narrow. Our room never looked like the pictures on Trip Advisor. Our room just looked tired. Although it had an old fridge you don't get any complimentary water. There is no tea making facility. We did have wifi in our room although it was slow. The bed was fitted with the thinnest hardest mattress and the pillows were equally mean. Our TV while it worked seemed to lack channels. And our bathroom could have done with a serious clean. The air conditioning was working but seemed unable to pump out any cool air for the first few days we were there, which basically meant we just lay on top of the bed sweating into our own sheets. (They did sort it out for our last few days). Our bedding or towels were never changed. The room needed decoration, it was just dull and tired looking. The staff also do not come out of this well. We asked one of them to call us a taxi to go to a well known shopping mall. He quoted us 800 rupees. Instead we used Uber and got the same ride for less than 200. If you cannot trust your hotel staff to help, it's pretty sad. It seems the management don't even trust their staff as we had to stay in the room so that it could be cleaned, this cleaning did not involve making up the beds, changing sheets or towels or even giving us more toilet paper. This could be a really nice hotel (at least inside the smell outside, I am afraid cannot be changed) but the owners seem happy to present it as a building that has not been cleaned (properly) or decorated for many year and staff who really don't want to do too much (with one exception). A motivated staff, a good clean, a coat of paint and some decent pictures on the wall would make a hell of a difference.

Very pleasant

Introduction: The traditional welcome was a cool and unexpected touch. Payment not taken initially which removes a stress upon arrival.

Room presentation: The best we'd seen so far, very clean and nice decor. Lovely cool rooms (which is much needed in august) and the bathroom was lovely and spacious.

Room facilities: The fridge was an absolute saviour and allowed us to stock up on goodies from the very nearby grocers. The wifi was weak in the room, I imagine due to the thick walls, but was fast outside. We had our own patio area which was lovely to relax on. TV didn't seem to work but we didn't care. Warm water only decided to show up every now and then, but again it was so hot we didn't care.

Food and drink: The set meals were over our budget, but they rustled us up some Poha for breakfast which was tasty. Masala Chai was lovely but again more than I hoped to spend. This wasn't a big deal though as there are plenty of street food places around.

Staff: Polite, smiley and always helpful. They left us to it which added to the relaxing atmosphere, some may prefer more interaction (not me though).

Price: Seemed a good deal for the the room we were given.

Overall: The ambience was spot on, just what we were after. A lovely relaxing place to stay in the busy pink city.

Simple but beautiful.

This is somewhere to stay if you like your own space, and not to be bothered by anyone. We had a huge terrace area outside our very spacious room, perfect for reading and drinking chai tea. We only tried the poha, so cannot speak for the food, but that was nice enough. Staff are attentive when required, but keep themselves to themselves, which is quite nice. The building is truly stunning, the stained glass windows in the entrance/reception area are so beautiful in the afternoon sunlight when the light reflects. For £11 a night, this is great value and provides quietness in a busy city. A short walk to the gorgeous Hawa Mahal and nearby other popular attractions. Would really recommend to anyone. The arrival ceremony is also a rather nice touch, a flower garland and welcome drink. Fridge in the room was really a bonus. I am doing research in Jaipur, and this was the perfect safe haven to return to at the end of the day, we liked it so much in fact that we are returning to stay there after our few days in Pushkar.
