Old style glamour

Opposite main railway station this hostel is more like a hotel from a more gracious era. Very comfortable. Two sets of coded button pushing entrance doors. Excellent, friendly staff. Stay here! Walk to everywhere.
Nice

Stayed here for 6 nights. The room was clean and spacious with the shared bathroom right outside. The hotel itself was always quiet but at night time the road outside could be noisy. The hotel is in a really good location for traveling around Perth and there were many bus stops and the main train station about a 2 minute walk away. However the shared kitchen needs a few more plated and cutlery as my girlfriend and I had to share the only plate and butter our toast with a spoon!
Clean and comfortable

Comfortable beds, perfectly clean throughout, lovely old character and so convenient to everything in the city. Staff were helpful and pleasant even though we were quite frazzled from a long trip through Africa and no sleep (I was a bit short tempered on arrival- sorry). I would stay here again in a heartbeat, thanks Akara for a good nights sleep and being so welcoming :) ps Loved to tottally non-smoking policy!
Excellent location and a pleasant stay at Akara Hotel, Perth

This is a heritage listed hotel refurbished to modern standards, boasting a very convenient location with a bus stop a few steps away from the entrance and the main train station of Perth a short walk away.
Check in was quick and, to my relief, my room was already ready when I arrived after a flight from Melbourne. It was rather tight but functional - there was a big table, a soft and comfy bed, a side table with a lamp, an en suite bathroom with hot and cold water, toiletries, and many towels. There was no closet but there's a rack and a shelf where one can put things. There was no safe. The room was accessed by a key.
The hotel has its own cafe at the ground floor, where I had a generous brunch and good cappuccino.
As part of its amenities, the hotel has a large lounge filled with interesting memorabilia, as well as space for meetings and just chilling around, common areas per floor with a small balcony affording a view of Perth, a water dispenser, and a laundry area.
Service was friendly, with Christy going beyond by allowing me to borrow her iron and iron stand. I also got very good advice on getting around Perth and beyond to Rottnest Island.
Overall a fine stay with excellent value!
Dont judge a book by its cover.

My wife and I were on a budget so we booked a private double with shared bathroom at the Akara because it was one of the more affordable properties that was within walking distance of the ferry terminal to Rottnest Island. It was also only a block away from where the airport drop off / pick up is as well which was also super convenient. From the outside the Akara doesn't look like much but on the inside its huge, well decorated, and has heritage building charm like you wouldn't believe. Its location is on the fringe of the developed downtown and perhaps a seedier part of the city but with the expansion and construction of the downtown core that is taking place that will soon change. I would stay here again!
