Mountain Stop

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. My travel companions loved it. It is a great place to stop before taking the road over the Jotunheimen Mountains. The scenery is unbeatable. I met a friendly cat there which did a lot to make me feel at home. The breakfast is good and they offer to let you pack a lunch (sandwich paper and sacks provided) for a fee. The soup at dinner was delicious, the entree acceptable. The common rooms are filled with intriguing items and paintings. My single room was fine. A rustic cabin room. The bathroom was barely acceptable. It was small, and hot. There was a heating element in the overhead light that I couldn't figure how to switch off. I spent as little time in there as I could. The bed seemed creaky, but I must say that I slept very well with the windows open and the cool mountain air breezing in.
I think you will be happy as long as you know what to expect. If you are looking for an American style 4 star hotel, you won't like it.
Fun, quaint, and unique

We loved this place. It was unusual, quirky, pretty, interesting, and friendly. The rooms are each named after Norse mythology figures. There are paintings, antiques, and decorative items on display. Lots of little hallways, and a variety of regular hotel wings, lodge-type buildings, and separate cabin-type rooms. I couldn't stop taking pictures of everything. Kind of otherworldly. I think it would be great for families. Our room was kind of basic, yet it was comfy, clean, and had a great view. Oh, and the dinner and breakfast were both really good. I'd recommend this for the quaint factor!
Special place, disappointing room

Very old landmark hotel in a beautiful environment.
Very nice main hall/sitting rooms with fire place. Dining room has great view but lay out is too big almost canteen like dimensions. Good food, great service.
We ordered a renovated room, which was disappointing small and lacking essentials like a socket to load your phone next to the bed.
Price quality ratio not good
A Very Scenic and Quaint Hotel

The main building is like visiting a museum with the art and antiques. And the scenery in the area is wonderful. The rooms, at least in the outer building, might not be appealing to some people. It was like staying in and older, small mountain cabin -- very rustic and basic. The bathroom had no window or shower curtains, and the shower couldn't be adjusted so it was a difficult exercise to hold the shower head in place while trying to soap yourself. It was a wet, water off, soap, and rinse routine. But all-in-all the room had a certain charm to it. But very old and few amenities. The dining room is large and the breakfast was fine. This might be a place you'd remember with fondness, or it might not be a place to your liking. We liked it despite some inconveniences.
Disappointed

The hotel is well situated and looks promising as you drive under the entrance arch. It may be good for groups but it is not somewhere I could recommend to a solo traveller like me. There is a set menu for dinner, for which there are two sittings. I was seated on my own while everybody else was on large tables and engaged in excited conversation. This is bound to produce a feeling of isolation and loneliness. Service was also slow, which made matters worse. Breakfast is a buffet and the warm buffet wasn't.
