What People are saying

Disappointed in this hotel

EnglandRuddles on 09/09/2016 17:20

We booked in to this hotel for 2 nights to explore the area of Skagen. On arriving we were allocated a room under the staircase to the upper level outside the sitting area to the bar. We had pre booked a quiet room, upstairs, and away from any noise ....that didn't work did it!! The room was compact with 2 beds and two small utility chairs. The ensuite is boxed in from the main room but the shower was very efficient. This does, however, make the room smaller. There are adequate toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. We did have to go next door to tell the people there to keep down the noise.
Beds were really comfy with lovely clean, white linen. The WiFi is very efficient and free.
Breakfast was very good and well organised. There was plenty of choice and a good variety. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Beware if you want to pay by credit card - this hotel charges a surcharge so take cash. This was the main reason we didn't eat here as we wanted to pay by card but not have a surcharge on top of the bill.
The outside looks in need of a repaint but it was alright. Wouldn't choose it again.

OK for the price

You will not pay a fortune to stay at Albaek Gl. Kro, and the ambiance is nice and friendly as it should be, but the rooms are very basic and ours allowed us to follow all the doings of our neighbors...with the history of this inn , H.C Andersen and Holger Drachmann have been frequent guests, they should upgrade the quality of the lodgings.

Breakfast is ok but the very large open room does give the feel of a school cafeteria.

Ok

Ålbæk gl. Kro is fine. It's easily located & has a laid back atmosphere.
We just spent 2 nights here, hubby, me & our two teenage children.
We made the booking two months ago. We arrived at 2pm to find we were booked in for only one night. Obviously we had their confirmation e-mail with booking number and luckily they were able to accommodate us, so no problem. The lady from reception quickly appeared with bedding and cups for our teens as room wasn't made up for four of us.
The room rate approx £330 for the two nights included free parking, free tea & coffee in room & free wifi.
Wifi worked well.
Between us for the two nights we got 3 sachets of coffee and a few t.bags, sugar, sweetner, creamer.
We booked a luxury family room, which again was ok/fine. Two tiny (never seen such tiny bottles) of hair & bodywash and a body lotion. I always take toiletries as have been caught out before so no problems. I did not however think to bring liquid hand soap which lasted approx 1 handwash each!
Breakfast was a buffet. Day 1 we tried the coffee, I couldn't drink it, stuck to iced water day 2. There was both apple & orange juice.
Hot breakfast was soft boiled eggs &/or pancakes both days. The pancakes were nice, however, the maple syrup bottle was really sticky and if you touched it you had to wash your hands immediately. A little thing but seriously annoying. There was a selection of bread & rolls. Day 1 the rolls were hard. Day 2 they were warm & lovely.
Good selection of cheeses & processed meats if you like that for breakfast.
Cereals selection and yoghurt. Yum I thought, thick Greek yoghurt with berries, nuts & honey? No runny yoghurt and the fruit was pineapple & melon with skin/outer shell and grapes day 1 and the pineapple was changed to watermelon day 2. Choice of jams (no diabetic options shown) also mini croissants and mini Danish pastries.
We were in Ålbæk to attend a lunchtime function at the Kro. It was a lovely function but we were very underwhelmed by the lunch buffet.
Based on breakfast & that buffet we opted to eat elsewhere both evenings.

Overall- it's an ok place. The continual mothercycle guys revving their engines under our bathroom window was somewhat tiresome.

Small hotel with a nice feel

We stayed for only one night but found the hotel to have a nice ambience with open spaces, comfortable rooms, dining rooms with some character and an approachable staff. The room was a good size with some comfortable seating and a good bed; breakfast was a reasonably extensive buffet.

Nice'n'cosy

Traditional old dansh inn, no big deal with the room - small, unpractical and with a raw smell. The breakfast reminded me of my school trips to Denmark in my youth where we stayed on rather scary places - did not enjoyed it at all. In a room that hasn't been decorated since 1970s. But the it was two thing that saved us from a totally disaster was the danish lunch called "frokostplatte" (breakfast plate) and the nearby beach. The "frokostplatte" with pickled herring, fried plaice and roastbeef - and nice ice-cold Tuborg and two danish snaps - I was in heaven. The image of a bad rooms and the breakfast was just gone - this is the essence of Denmark and the danes - beautiful food and drinks - what a culture and what a country! So thanks for everything - just to bad the danes and the norwegian broke up the union in 1644 - what a shame!! But fix the rooms please and I'll be back - I promise!!!
