What People are saying

Quiet and Clean and Comfortable

First time ever in a Guest House. Time to kill at the aiport so thought I would write a review!!

Not at all like I had expected. Large comfortable room with full washroom. Bed was king size and beyond comfortabe. No views, as I was in the back of the property. I unpacked my things and settled in. The room in front of mine was empty and I took a peak in. It had incredible views. I asked the caretaker if I could change and he said sure but it a bedroom and it will be dark in 20 minutes and you will close your drapes. Why not just sit in the front bedroom room and have a cup of tea and watch the night coming and then you don;t have to bother moving your things. Sounded pretty logical to me so that is exactly what I did.

He told me that they had stopped breakfast service because there was no keeping up with changing tastes and expectations. That worked for me too as the room had coffee / tea supplies .

I booked online and the price was very low. Off season. He said it would be even lower if I had booked diretcly trough their webpage. Online booking services charge small operators 25%

This Guest House gives a whole new meaning to value for money. I have stayed in some pretty posh hotels in Canada while on business travel, but on my own money? This would be my first pick in St. John's.

Very Poor Breakfast

We switched to the Abba Inn at the last minute to help them out after they had double booked us in their sister B&B, the Gower Inn. They upgraded us to a 'King' room; the room was nice, quite large and clean but had no view at all, even though it was on the top floor. There was no one to greet us on arrival, just an envelope with our name on it inside the front door, giving the combination to the inner door. We were not given a parking ticket, like the other guest who arrived just before us. Fortunately there is free on-street parking just along the road. We stayed for a couple of nights and had a good nights sleep both nights. The breakfast on the 1st morning was dreadful. Two large plates of melon, covered in cling film were on the table but dozens of fruit flies were trapped under the cling film! The stewed coffee in the pot was cold - yesterday's? There was a good variety of cereals and plenty of bread for toast. Newfoundlanders are great tea drinkers but the only tea bags available were fruit teas. We were better prepared the following morning and brought our own tea bags!

Great value for $. Free parking. WiFi worked. Large clean rooms

Wish I had found this place before. I go St. John's frequently. Salesperson. So ever dollar counts. City was blocked with some mega convention so I checked out this place and could only get one night. It was fine,

A depressing base from which to explore St John's

We are a very well traveled older couple. We wanted to stay downtown St John's which the Abba Inn is. We stayed for three nights. This is misleadingly described as an Inn - It is about 4 or so rooms in a semi detached house. You let yourself in. There was said to be a live in caretaker "Val" -we never saw her. We did see a helpful Moldovian man at breakfast who seems to live in the basement. The entrance lobby and hall are not inviting. We did have a large bed but the sheets were nylon, the toiletries mean, towels clean but threadbare and the room gloomy. Breakfast was in the basement - they tried but a very poor effort with dreadful coffee. We booked here as most of the alternatives appeared full - no doubt the misleadingly named Abba Inn relies on this. Avoid if you possible can.

Great location

As we were arriving in St. John's we contacted the Abba Inn and had no problem getting a reservation. The location is great as you can park your car and just walk around the downtown area. Great walking distance after enjoying a evening on George Street...LOL. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I was amazed at the size of the room as it was quite large. My only negative is that it can be hard to find parking on the street as this Inn does not have a parking area.
