What People are saying

Great place for walkers

Paul Gon 27/10/2017 19:01

We loved the fact that there was a room for walkers as you entered. No need to worry about your dirty and wet clothes as you entered. The boot drying rack was really appreciated after our many wet days on the trails. Lots of warm racks in therooms to finish drying some of our clothes.

We appreciated the honesty bar before our meal. The evening meal was filling and good, but seemed a little pricey. Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of cereal, fruit, yogurt ect, before ordering our main course. Very filling

Would give six stars if possible

Sue and Tim really are thinking of everything that you can imagine: there is a boot room where you can hang up your shoes so they are dry and warm in the morning, dinner and breakfast were a real delight prepared by Tim, the rooms are cosy and equipped with everything you can wish for (f.e. USB-plugs just beside the beds). On top of that Sue is a real character with a great sense of humour. Perfect host, perfect stay - we would go back there anytime again!

Pleasant and comfortable

We stayed here whilst walking Hadrians Wall, it had been booked for us by the company arranging our accomodation.
We had stayed at several B&Bs along the route prior to getting here. This might sound strange but whilst we were made welcome, it was the least welcoming welcome of all the stops on our walk. I personally felt that the owners were only concerned with making money out of us. I say this as we had to purchase the evening meal (no other options close enough to use) at £22 a head. Homemade soup starter, chicken drumstick & thigh with stewed veg main course followed by a chocolate dessert. No other options offered and I personally think very overpriced particularly as there was no other option. Certainly not fine dining, maybe rustic dining, honesty bar at venue but again very overpriced.
Breakfast the following morning ok, but only one of each item, and not particularly substantial.
Having had experience working in similar establishments I believe it was overpriced for food, although the rooms were comfortable enough.
Wifi although free was very intermittent.

Great for walkers

When we arrived after a long walk and completely wet of a shower, we were received with great care. A specially equipped room with a dry rack for the shoes, jackets for the coats and even slippers were ready. The diner was very delicious in the company of other hikers. Also the breakfast was awkward so that we could continue our journey with the full courage the next morning.

One night stay whilst walking hadrians wall, perfect

We had a great time staying here. We we're very tired after a 17 mile trek that day and carrying 15 kilos on our backs. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and the rooms were perfect, clean and very comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast was superb and homely. Beers from the bar was just what we needed too. And with a good crowd espcially including two German guys which we had a good laugh with, just topped it off perfectly. If I am passing this area in the future I will be sure to stay again. Thanks for the good memories and hospitality!
