What People are saying

Beijing on a budget but would like a good location

CaptainofFun on 15/07/2017 15:10

I stay in this hotel almost every month and have done for the last 5 or 6 years.

As other reviewers have said, Beijing prices are getting sillier and sillier but the AC continues to be reasonably priced. The reception staff do not speak a great deal of English but I have always found them to be friendly and willing to help. For example I once left my wallet in a taxi and they worked long and hard to get it back for me.

The rooms are reasonably sized and clean, the internet works well and all of the cleaning staff have a smile once they realise that you do not think that you are special just because you are a foreigner.

A different artist is featured on every floor with a unique piece of art in every room.

The restaurant is OK but the breakfast is distinctly Chinese so if breakfast matters to you, do not pay for it and go out and find somewhere to meet your needs.

One of the main reasons that I stay there is the location. There are hundreds of restaurants within 10-15 minutes walk and pretty much from every corner of the world.

My last visit to Beijing

Generally, the prices in Beijing are getting higher. My experience was satisfactory regarding the room cleanness, the location and the friendly staff. The quality of the breakfast need to be improved and the prices of the coffee shop are expensive

Foreigners- close to Embassy but NOT worth it!!!!

We had a terrible time here last week. They clearly did not care about their customers whatsoever. My fiancé and I needed to go to the Embassy early in the morning, before getting a train back to our city. We stayed here for the convenience of its location, and it seemed to have decent reviews. When we arrived at 11 pm, they said "No Rooms." We, however, had a confirmation number in an email from hotels.com. Now I do also know this was the fault of hotels.com, but the hotel just made it worse. They said we didn't, in fact, have a reservation, even though we were showing them a confirmation number and the email saying "Your room is booked." They continued to say "Just a minute, just a minute." These minutes quickly turned into OVER an hour. We were beyond frustrated, especially when we'd just travelled for hours to get here and just wanted to sleep. Two people behind the desk continued to make calls and look on their computer, all while giggling about it. They would laugh and say "Sorry, no!" And we kindly said please stop laughing, saying we weren't really finding this funny... we were stuck at this point and it was already past midnight. We tried to get a simple yes or no, was there a room available or not... They continued to say "wait" while laughing. I called a Chinese friend to translate to ensure we weren't misunderstanding anything. As we waited, they continued to do other things... waiting on other guests of course, but seeming to forget about us while we stood there... Eventually, they said they'd have to call another hotel. We hoped it would be nearby, because that's where we needed to be. They called one hotel, hung up and laughed "Haha, sorry! No rooms there!" We really weren't seeing the humour... We finally did get another hotel, in which we had to get a cab and pay to get there, and also back in the morning, since it wasn't in the same location. They also were not listening to us when we said we were going to be charged double, since we would have to pay at the new hotel, but we would also be charged on our credit card for the original booking at their hotel. We've since contacted hotels.com to have to dispute the charge, but they didn't show any concern. All in all, it was all easy, little fixes and should not have been a problem at all. If they didn't have rooms, they should have known that before well over an hour of looking in their computer system. They also just seemed to brush us off quite easily, and didn't show any interest in helping.

The convenience of staying here near to the embassy is really not worth it, in our opinion!! However, the only positive is it is near Paddy O'Shea's which is a great night out :)

an artist hotel in central Beijing

cafephilo on 09/11/2016 21:39

An unusual hotel in a sense that it serves dual purposes of being a lodging place and an art museum. Established about twenty years ago by Mr Li, an entrepreneur and artist in his own right, the original building was a disused clothes factory. Mr Li is a stone carving artist who saw the opportunity of converting a factory into an art museum at the same time making it pay for itself by providing lodgings to tourists. The museum in the hotel displays Mr Li's own stone art and his collection of mosaic and inlaid stone works by contemporary Italian artists. Since the hotel was converted, it has undergone several renovations. The most recent one was carried out last year. The redecorated rooms are modern, luxurious and very clean. Bathroom has spacious Italian shower as well as a bathtub. Bed is comfortable. The most impressive part of the hotel must be the paintings exhibited in the long corridors, by a different artist on each floor. As the hotel is renowned for its art collections, admittedly the catering service is not its forte.

Not for foreigners

dmitryegorov2005 on 17/08/2016 07:15

Hotel is close to embassies area but very difficult to catch a taxi. first, 'too close' for taxi but still far to walk (especially in winter). Hotel is not on main road so to get taxi is difficult.
most important staff do not speak English hence for foreigners it will be a difficult place to stay or get around. Breakfast is only limited choice of chinese food (not too bad, but really very simple). No facilities to print / copy / meet.
Rooms however are brand new and nice. Rooms are good. If you speak Chinese then probably ok but would recommend to stay in more international brand if you dont speak the language.
