Acceptable Stopover on a trip

In the outskirts of Valence, at Bourg de Valence the hotel Akena is located. If you know the Ibis hotels or similar, you will know what awaits you. Standard rooms with standard 3-stars amenities, out of the town, but near the Rhone and relatively quiet, this hotel is a good stopover on your trip from or to the south of France. Conveniently located from the Autoroute, with free private parking, no restaurant open at the moment, but two chain restaurants just nearby, it has offered the room to us for only 50€. Worth every penny for a night, but nothing more.
Breakfast buffet available for 8 € per Person additionally.
Terrible

We stayed at Hotel Akena for a couple of nights as our car broke down on the way to the Gorge Du Verdon. We pre booked our stay using TripAdvisor because the reviews seemed good and it has a pool. On arrival the receptionist was abrupt and cold. Certainly not a warm reception. The room itself was average and dated but we were fine with this for the price. However the first day we weren't able to use the pool or pool area. No discount was offered nor explanation given. We were obviously disappointed as this was the reason we stayed at this particular hotel.
We didn't eat in the hotel's restaurant as preferred to walk into town but we did get coffee in the morning which cost €5.80 for two half filled cups. We found this expensive. Bearing all this in mind I would consider the hotel average and wouldn't normally bother writing a review.
However on the morning we were due to leave I realised my necklace which I kept in my bag while down at the pool was missing. The room was locked the whole time we were there except for when the cleaners were in there. I had nothing else of value in the room so they must have really rooted around to find my necklace. I obviously was upset and went down to talk to the receptionist who didn't do a whole lot other then ask for my address and told me she would send it to me if it was found. No apology or acknowledgement that it was pretty rubbish.
Needless to say there wasn't a package waiting for me from the hotel when I got home. I'm gutted my necklace was stolen.
I would certainly NOT recommend this hotel.
Straight forward Budget

It is what it is. Cheap and close to highway. Beds are comfy and staff was friendly. Breakfast plenty for €7.50. Stay away from the two restaurants across the road and you will have a good stay.
Very recommendable for a quick stopover to break up the long trips
NICE OASIS IN A TOWN

We stayed here for 2 nights when the air con in Apart City Valence was not working. Unfortunately they had issues with their aircon too - it was exceptionally hot.
The hotel looked dated, but was clean and otherwise nice.
The pool area was wonderful, excellent sun beds, just wish there had been more urgency to fix the aircon. Other than that would recommend.
update to my two other reviews- thin walls

The bed is large (king size?) the TV very small, the bathroom has a full shower and plenty of space, carpet has been replaced, and the hotel is clean. Breakfast has dropped the eggs and bacon and replaced them with cheese, more fruit, and bread style items. Breakfast price is down to 10 Euros. Dinner in the restaurant was good at a good price. Now the problem; thin walls. I could hear a lot of stuff going on in other rooms and the hallway and the source of the sound was not abnormally loud. The sound seems to carry through the walls. I would be very concerned if a noisy group of people were staying on your floor.
