What People are saying

Nice hotel and service

Steinvör Þ on 21/01/2017 19:14

I spent 10 days in Wagrain in Hotel Alpina in January 2017.

It was very child friendly.
The room service was perfect, the best I have experienced.
The comforters and pillows were great.
The breakfast was perfect.
Dinner was great, very good food.
Restaurant service was perfect and very friendly waiters and waitresses.
The service at the desk was perfect, very friendly family that run the hotel. Answered all our questions and found informations for us that we asked about.

The reason why I do not give full house is:
Our room for three was rather small and we had very small closet for our clothes and no drawers for the clothes, only one shelf in the closet. The shelf is narrow and high in the closet, the kids could not use it. We kept most of our clothes in our bags on the floor.
The mattresses were way too soft.
The wifi is very bad, mostly no wifi at all. Our group had problems with most internet pages, facebook worked but slow most of the time.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel but ask for good matresses and closet when you book.

We were sad leaving and saying goodbye to the nice family and staff.

Amazing Hotel, Service and Food!

This is our third time visiting the Alpina for a large family vacation (10 people in total). I had to review it again because it gets better every year. The rooms are clean and tidy and the location can't be beat just a few steps from the flying mozart ski lift. The family who runs the hotel is very friendly and helpful with anything needed during the trip. The food is absolutely amazing and even better this year as they have a new chef. My in-lws stayed at another hotel but were easily accommodated at dinner with us. I've stayed at other places in Wagrain before discovering Alpina and none come close.

Nice but not the best value for money

To be fair let me start with saying that me and my family had a wonderful holiday in Tirol last year, and that's why we decided to come back to Austria this year with very high expectations which weren't really fulfilled.

We had a 2-5 persons room, which was nice, newly renovated and clean, but I am glad we weren't 5 persons, because it wasn't that big.

The hotel has as swimming pool which isn't that suitable for children (rather cold, small and with no toys, slides etc.). It is however probably not meant to be either, since it is surrounded by an area with steam bath, sauna, relaxing music etc. In stead you are given free admission to a local water world situated 500 meters from the hotel which is quite nice.

Apart from the water world you are also provided with a lift card valid for 5 days if you stay for 7 nights. Unfortunately the card is only valid in two local lifts. However one of these two lift take you to Grafenberg which has lots of children friendly activities, and the other a well-estimated mountain bike park.

What mainly annoyed us with this hotel is the restaurant - not so much the food, but the food logistics: Breakfast worked okay as a buffet with quite a lot of choices. We could probably have wished for less cake and more hot dishes (the only hot "dish" was soft-boiled eggs, but I think you could order such things as scramble eggs, but we didn't want to pay extra), but we weren't promised more.

In our info material we were told that there would be juice bar for the children every day until 5 PM and refreshments everyday from 4 PM to 5 PM. The owner was very surprised when we asked about that the first day after arrival. He gave us some boring cake and som drinks to the kids and some boring cake, and then we ended paying for the coffee ourselves. This might be the mistake of travel agency so we didn't bother to discuss more - we will take that with them, when we get home.

Our main complaint is dinner arrangements. We knew from home that there would be 4 courses (starter, soup, main course and dessert). Every morning you pick one out of three new main courses, and the three other courses are fixed. Children can opt in or out for the starter and the soup, pick 1 of 8 children main courses or 1/2 portion of one of the adult main courses and choose between the regular dessert or a small portion of ice cream. We kind of knew this selection process from last year. However they insist on serving all courses at the table meaning that it takes for ever to eat: if we came exactly when the restaurant opened at 6.30 PM we could be done around 8.15 PM. This is really not ideal with tired and hungry kids. A couple of times we were also forgotten by the waiters, even though they did their best, especially Elisabeth who we would like to honor for her humor. Our children are 6 and 9 years old and dealt reasonable well with the arrangement, but we also let them leave between some of the courses every now and then. Having a slow meal everyday can of course be great if you spend a holiday without children, but hey it is called family hotel!

All in all we didn't dislike the hotel, but it just wasn't the best deal: We paid nearly double up compared to last year, and didn't get lunch packages, free drinks until 22 PM (in fact no free drinks at all excerpt for breakfast), afternoon cake/ ice cream. Also the room was rather small. Instead we got som swimming facilities and a free lift card, but for us it didn't make up for the inconveniences.

It was great week of our Austrian vacation! Nice hotel and services. Owners are friendly and very client-oriented.

The restaurant was the best :)
You may choose the hotel Alpina without any doubts !
Hotel is situated uphill so the view is good. The nearest drag lift is 100 m away. The village center is within the walking distance so you could have evening walks as the surroundings are nice

Very satisfied with this hotel

Me and my wife and 2 kids stayed at Hotel Alpina for one week in feb 2015 and to say the least we were very pleased with the hotel. Right at the registration we felt the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. We got a perfect room on the 2nd floor with view over the valley. The food was great, room services was amazing as we were often welcomed with figures made from the towels ( kids loved it ). The spa area was fine, and the kids were allowed in the sauna. They also had a kid free spa, but we never tried that. Everythig was so clean and in good order and it really shows that the facilities are taken good care of. I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone travelling in this area.
