What People are saying

Not to be recommended

Place needs a LOT of tlc! Everything needs fixing, not been looked after and is sliding into neglect. Very noisy, people arriving to drop off and collect staff, wreck of a car in car park being worked on, extractor fan in bathroom is so noisy it drowns out the tv sound no matter how loud you set it. Staff friendly and bed comfortable must say

Be very careful with this one!

Positives: The room was clean and the air-conditioning worked well. Beds were comfortable. Reception lady (temping at the time) was friendly. WiFi works, but is very slow and suitable only for SD streaming (but expect the occasional interruption). Unfortunately, that’s where the “positive” ends…

Negatives: Let’s start with the reception lady, who’s hands were tied as she had to relay every message to the owner, who was in Dubai. She was not given any decision-making authority and as a result none of our issues could be dealt with in an appropriate and timely manner. On arrival, I badly scrapped my vehicle on the onramp as there is a low brick wall which is in the blind spot for the driver (I drive a hi-rise pickup – SUV’s should have a similar problem). It was all down the drain from here… After the initial “good” impression with the room (see positives), we quickly discovered the negatives: 1) There is literally no privacy, and despite the owner insisting she communicated the fact, I can categorically state that I was never informed of this set-up. Only a thin curtain separates the bedroom area from the toilet/shower. When I made the booking, I clearly stated that I will be visiting with my 10-year-old daughter. I checked and rechecked – at no stage did the owner of the establishment communicate to me this set-up, neither did she at any time consider my situation with my daughter and how this could be a problem. 2) The toilet seat was broken and repaired with glue. It’s plastic and cannot be more than a R100 or so to replace – why repair?? I got pinched every time I used the toilet. 3) Single ply no-name-brand toilet paper… Really??? 4) Our request to get moved to another room could not be accommodated. The owner sent us an e-mail giving us some options – assuming we will read it. I’m on holiday, so I actually try to “disconnect”. The fact that the reception lady was not allowed to interact with us aggravated the problem but at least she told us about te e-mail when she saw us. By then the offers were not suitable and the one option to move us to a different room could no longer be accommodated. Why does the owner not talk to us directly? 5) Our particular room (nr 6) does not have a private entrance – in fact, the entrance is in the parking area, so you will have to endure every time another guest come or go. 6) The DSTV gave a lot of problems. We could resolve them all, eventually and with some help at times, but it was very frustrating. 7) The kettle in the room did not work – you have to lean a heavy object to the switch to keep it on and remember to manually switch it off when the water is boiling. 8) The overall electricity safety in the room is very suspect – I doubt it would carry the signoff of a qualified electrician.

Great Rustic Romantic getaway

Good accommodation great pool excellent service, good facilities and perfect location to casinos clubs and restaurants. Enjoyed the privacy, good breakfast and comfort. Highly recommended. For a great getaway or just a romantic valentines evening

Absolutely Terrible Stay

Customer2016 on 02/01/2016 08:22

The beds are unbelievably uncomfortable with the receptionist being aware of the problem but still doing bookings regardless. Parking is a huge problem. The guesthouse is not situated in a safe area. The kitchen is understocked. It is dirty underneath the beds and on top of the kitchen cabinets. The bathroom towels are super old and hard. Some one there stole a item from my luggage. I would not advise people to book there even if it is the last available option. Even though the staff tries to be helpful and nice, its not worth it getting a bad nights sleep on a really bad bed. This is not value for money.

Value for money

Booking a week before leaving for Ballito, we found the Seasonal prices for staying at Al Marrakesh EXTREMELY cheap! Parking was a small problem and the TV didn't work at all, but for someone who goes about exploring and doesn't drive 6hours to go and lie on a bed, this was perfect!
