Good Hotel if You Have a Car
Mark Bon 25/11/2015 14:03The hotel is a few minutes from the autostrada, making it very convenient. Our GPS took us straight to the hotel with no problems at all. If you have a car, this is a good hotel with very reasonable rates--a nice alternative to staying in the higher priced hotels in Cinque Terre (it takes about a half hour by car to get to Montorosso al Mare due to the narrow, windy roads. Next time, I'd ask where the nearest train station is and train in to Cinque Terre.) Our room was spacious and very clean with an extra large bathroom. Breakfast was well worth 5 euros--meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, yogurt, juice, croissants, and tarts...
I didn't like that you had to register to use the WiFi Hotspot and use it in a public area; I much prefer having internet in our hotel room.
Super location for visiting Cinque Terre
Dave Aon 24/09/2015 15:33We spent a lot of time searching for a convenient hotel to visit Cinque Terre. This hotel is very convenient. It is 11 kms from Levento, where you can catch the train or the boat (as long as the sea is calm). Levento is a better place to get the train than La Spezia (the other end of Cinque Terre). The hotel is clean (has recently been renovated). The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is excellent value for money. The price is a lot cheaper than the villages themselves (or even Levento and La Spezia). PLUS they know some very good local restaurants.
Good value nice people
Jim Mon 22/09/2015 22:15This hotel is a bit out of the way, but a good value if you want to visit cinque a terra with out the crowds and cost. Clean, modern, good breakfast. The beds could be bigger but it was manageable. The owners spoke decent English and were very helpful in finding resteraunt and navigating the rail and boat transport to 5 terra. Super resteraunt nearby - ristoro del pellegrino
A memorable holiday
Gavern Won 27/06/2015 15:20We highly recommend the Albergo Al Ponte Antico! We stayed here for a week and will always remember this warm, friendly, clean and comfortable hotel with the most amazing hosts Roberto and Francesca who were knowledgeable of the area and always so willing to offer help and suggestions! Thanks you once again and we hope to return one day soon!. Gavern and Joan Waldeck
Weirdest two days possible
mrsppon 26/03/2013 16:42I do not advise you stay here whilst planning to enjoy the Cinqueterre. The distance is not only much to far to make a sensible base (despise what the hotel says on their website), but a rather tedious drive. Save your pennies anyway you can and try and find a room in one of the five villages instead.
On the plus side, the rooms were very clean and the manageress was friendly, hardworking and honest. The restuarant next door did pretty decent local food, and it was a pleasant change to stay in this very quiet hamlet and eat in a genuine local restaurant far from other tourists.
Unfortunately, the local men of the village seem to use the hotel bar area to play cards, sing, play computer games and watch TV. The noise in our room was horrendous. After I complained, this was stopped. These men weren't hotel guests but friends of the owners and I found it very odd they would make such a very loud noise in a commercial establishment!
Don't bother with breakfast.
No English is spoken, though they were co-operative with me as a none-too-fluent Italian speaker. LIterally, NO English seems to be spoken by anyone in the village.
There is only one place to eat in the evening.
The hotel is clean, there is plenty of parking and it wasn't a BAD experience staying here, but it just felt immensely odd....no bars, no shop, no signs of obvious employment, just this hotel and one restaurant next door, who kindly proffered a menu and were very indulgent with my Italian but then revealed that they only actually had about three things on the menu.
I've travelled reasonably widely in Italy. Obviously I didn't expect city facilities, but this place felt like somewhere to pass through, not somewhere to stay, however briefly, and however tempting it is to skip on the admittedly astronomical prices of the cinque terre hotels.
