Get a room with a view and you'll love this place
henry von 14/09/2017 09:40It was worth the drive up the hairpin turns from Como to stay at VIsta Lago. Our room had a small, but sturdy balcony overlooking Como and the countryside. A stunning view. We had struck out with the Como hotels and B&Bs and needed a room for the night, so we didn't mind paying the 95 euros, plus 8 for parking down the road about 100 meters. The breakfast was included with a choice of a made to order omelette, cappuccino, bread, croissant, juice and a bottle of water.
Basic but adequate, excellent location, family run
dianaprwon 18/08/2017 00:20We had made a last-minute booking in another place but when we arrived (having driven up the very narrow, winding road up to the top of the mountain!) we discovered that there had been a mistake on the online booking site and they had no room. They suggested we go higher up the hill to see if Vista Lago had a room. After a bit of humming and hawing the owner said well yes he could give us a room - maybe somebody else didn't turn up? We were shown to our room which was not very large but had a lovely balcony looking out over the fabulous view down into the valley - somewhat obscured by the house in front, but we saw the sunset and the sunrise so who is going to complain about that? A rather small bathroom - definitely one person at a time in there! This is a very basic hotel, no frills but very clean and the family very friendly and helpful. We were offered dinner on the terrace next to our room which was on the first floor and we were overlooking the small square in front of the church, whose bells rang musically every quarter hour as we had dinner. Lovely atmosphere, although it was by no means luxury. The dinner was very good indeed and the owner rather shyly asked if we would like to try some very special beer that only he had the licence to sell in the area. Neither of us are beer drinkers - we prefer wine - but with an offer like that we could not refuse, and the beer (lager) was really very good. There is absolutely minimal parking in the tiny town but the owner directed us to a place where we could safely leave the car overnight, just down the road. In fact we left it there the next morning when we went to take the funicular (50 meters from the hotel) down to Lake Como, while the hotel owner kept our bags for us in his office. He even gave us his personal yearly funicular pass so that we only had to pay for one of us to use the funicular which we greatly appreciated! Excellently located and not expensive, and we really liked the fact that we were right next to Como but not in the crowd of tourists down in the city. Breakfast is included in the price of the room - orange juice, coffee, toast and butter and jam. There is no air conditioning but in fact we did not need it as the temperature (in July) was much cooler than down next to Lake Como. This hotel is definitely all about location at a very reasonable price.
Quiet and Clean
kathrynbspenceron 10/08/2017 07:01We stayed here as an alternative to the overpriced hotels in near Lake Como. The hotels location is great in terms of being right up the street from the funicular. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The room does not have air conditioning but a staff member was nice enough and accommodated us with a fan. The wifi isn't great, doesn't work well at night but is great during the morning. The little town of Brunate is beautiful but you can see most of it in two hours. All together it was a nice stay.
An amazing place with GREAT host and Chef! Memorable experience!
FARHAN Fon 25/04/2017 04:06Great place to visit. friendly people ALL over.
ONE SPECIAL place one must visit is an Italian restaurant ALBERGO VISTA LAGO where YOU MUST MUST eat..... they charge you 19.00 Euros/person and load you with EXCELLENT FOOD. Our suggestion will be to order two meals for three people as the servings are huge.
Special Note and personal experience:
After our meal we left the restaurant and headed to our ride back to Lake Como. After about 10 minutes the chef came running after us as we had left our back pack in the restaurant. This bag had all our money and US passports. We will forever be in debt for the honesty and the hospitality of this place! We will surely stop for a meal if not stay there. They are lovely people!
THANK YOU... THANK YOU... THANK YOU!!!!
Fabulous Views - Exceptionally welcoming.
Carole Ton 04/04/2016 18:02We took a trip on the funicular railway from Como to the village of Brunate at the very top of the hill. We wanted a coffee where we could enjoy the views. Most places were closed for Easter. I spotted the perfect raised terrace with tables above a hotel. Roberto the hotel owner explained that he had just arrived for the first time, having purchased the hotel recently. He asked where we came from and said he loved English people. He invited us up to the terrace and insisted on treating us, as we were his very first customers. The view from that terrace was absolutely stunning. Although we were staying in Como, we asked to see a room for future visits. We were taken to a room with two balconys, which had views that were incredible. It seemed as if we were looking across Lake Como and the Swiss Mountains from the sky. The room was very clean and simple with an en-suite with shower and cost less than a Travel Lodge in the UK! We will certainly be staying there in the future!
