Wonderful views in a retro setting

Overall, I enjoyed spending one night in this hotel. The drive up to the mountain in fantastic (I was on a road trip driving around for fun)
I didn't book in advance, walked in and managed to get a valley-view room at the price of a forest-view room. It had huge windows, and a fantastic 180-degree view of the mountains around Hallstättersee. The breakfast was very nice, the host was very friendly (also knew my nationality from my name), but he spoke very little English. Luckily, I speak some German, so we managed to communicate...
Now the downside. I got a non-refurbished room, with a very old carpet and a bed that was way too soft. The bathroom, though it was clean, looked very dated. But it served its function well, so I'll rate the hotel 4/5 based on value for money.
Off the beaten track.

We stayed at this hotel just out of Bad Goisem Austria. Well off the beaten track and a little on the quaint side it is a large hotel clean with good sized rooms ad clean bathrooms. While overdue for a makeover it was still very comfortable but this was in winter. our room at least did not have an air conditioner. Must have been off season as the dinner menu was very limited and staff who were very friendly and spoke excellent English seemed slim on the ground. Breakfast was reasonable but limited to boiled eggs and a good variety of cheeses and cold meats. Parking is free and next to the hotel. I would stay here again but not in summer.
Beautiful

Good car parking place available.
Breathtaking views from the room. We stayed on 1st floor with views of the Dachstein mountains. Truly spectacular.
Only hitch was we took a little long to find this place as there are not enough signboards and GPS wasnt helping much!
But the place bad goisern is very pretty.
Hotel staff was friendly. Breakfast was good
Nice hotel, out of the way, great view, a bit pricey

I have to admit that I had hoped for a bit more based on the price, tho at the height of tourist season I guess that was to be expected. The hotel is nestled up a back road away from the maddening tourist crowd. There is a free open parking area in back of the hotel, it would be nice if guests would park more efficiently tho. The hotel is nice, the reception prompt and helpful after a long motorcycle ride into the Alps. There are 2 lifts, which is nice. The hotel is older and could use a little updating. The room we had was on the 3rd floor up and had a nice balcony looking over some mountains and quaint local homes. The room did not have air conditioning, and faced the afternoon sun, so we kept the drapes closed until the weather cooled off. The room was decent sized, long and narrow, with 2 seating areas. The bed was European firm, the pillows were European soft. The bathroom was decent sized with a full bathtub, shower curtain and decent water pressure. There was even a small kitchenette like area, with a hot plate, sink and mini fridge. There is a swimming pool, but it was small and there were 2 teenagers horseplaying around that we didn't stay long. There was also a very small sauna and shower and rest area but it was too hot for us to try it out. There is a lovely dining room and open lanai for dinner and breakfast. Dinner was good (we had the deer goulash and the pike perch filet). Breakfast was included in the price and was a small buffet of cold sliced meats and cheeses, cereals, juices, yogurt, and breads. Hard boiled eggs were offered as well. Wifi was free, but was intermittent (maybe dependent on number of users?) and only available in the lobby/dining area. Because there was no air conditioning, we had to leave the window open, and for the most part it was very quiet, no real traffic other than guests coming/leaving. The only interesting sound was a neighbor mowing the lawn at 730am! I think the hotel offers a shuttle to the town but it costs 3 euro (one way?). The day we were leaving someone tried to open the door, and it turned out to be the owner and some staff, wanting to look at the room for renovation and not realizing that it was occupied. Weird? Definitely awkward. The hotel is nice, but I'm not sure what clientele it would cater to...maybe bus travelers enroute to someplace else? Tho the service was good, if I ever get back to this area, I might try another hotel.
Very Friendly Staff

The people who work at this hotel could not be nicer! They welcomed us with open arms after a previous hotel reservation didn't work out. The rooms are big and clean. This isn't a fancy hotel, but is just fine for a few nights. The breakfast isn't great, but the friendliness of the staff really makes up for a lot.
