What People are saying

Better than we expected after reading recent experiences of others.

_johnstanworth on 10/10/2017 01:07

My partner and I are in our mid fifties are well travelled and stay in a variety of places on our many holidays and trips.

We booked this hotel because it was near to a villa being used for a wedding of a friend and it looked to be good value even given the inconsistency of some recent reviews.

When we arrived we were met warmly in an impressive looking reception area and then went to our room. This was situated on the first floor, had impressive facilities (free safe, air con, large bathroom, TV, radio etc) and a balcony view with a well manicured football pitch below and the surrounding hills above.

This is a quiet hotel with an atmosphere that if you wanted to be negative could be considered soulless but the friendliness of various helpful staff would suggest this description would be harsh. The breakfast service could be a little better and the odd menu offerings wasn’t that great but it doesn’t define the hotel.

Our stay lasted four days and we enjoyed our stay. We had a car and would support others who make the point that this is essential to make best use of your time in the area. The pool is ok for an hour or so but travelling further a field added some variety which I think is needed unless you want things to be really quiet. Not sure if it was just us but some road sign are challenging and we now know more locals than before we arrived as we regularly asked for directions!!

I am a really keen golfer too but couldn’t play given our schedule. The hotel is not on the course but directly across the roads and to get to the clubhouse is a bit of a trek but as mentioned by other reviewers there is a free bus service.

The course features some spectacular looking holes as well as a par 3 course and driving range;will definitely play if I come to the area again. The fairways could have looked better on some holes but this maybe unfair as I didn’t experience them up close. What is fair to say is it’s a tight looking set up on many holes and you may need to bring plenty of balls if you’re wild off the tee.

We had a nice room (302), a good trip generally and felt inclined to give the Hotel some deserved positive comments because of this. We felt it warranted it based on our experience of the stay and the way we were often made to feel in and around it’s facilities.

Awful Place-Do not stay!

This place started off bad before we even arrived with the lack of professionalism and service from the reservations team. They tried to cancel our booking due to availability issues, a month before we were due to stay when it was booked 6 months previously. I also booked a late check out which they forgot about and had to re confirm 3 times!
When we got there the room was tired, urgent need of new decorating, black mould all in sealant in bah, both sinks did not work and had to take drain out, beds very uncomfortable.
luckily we were only here for 2 nights otherwise would have moved hotels!
Don't try and order lunch as the staff there clearly cannot be bothered to look after you, and the man behind the bar was exceptionally rude! We had to wait for an hour and half one day and they even forgot some of our order, reminded them yet still didn't come so we got up and left!
Really Really bad service and will not return.

Disappointed

Having changed accommodation a few weeks before a wedding nearby to a villa, I cancelled my booking on the hotel's website a fortnight before going. I completed the process and thought no more of it, until after getting back thinking it odd I never received an email confirmation, and thought I'd better check. To my huge disappointment they claimed I never cancelled it, and have charged me €139 despite me arguing my case. Will avoid in future and hope nobody else has this same useless, expensive experience.

Good but not great.

We know this area very well having lived here for 4 years previously and have stayed at this hotel many times. Since our last visit the hotel has undergone some refurbishment and on the whole it appears to be more modern than its previous Cortijo style decor. (Dark) However the refurb needs to continue through to the rooms now as they are very tired. I have to say that this hotel has seen its glory days. That said, it was still great stay and we will come back again. Its very quiet, peaceful away from the Brit pack, the all day english breakfast lovers and the drunken yobs (disappointingly normally Brits) of the coastal resorts.

I read all of the previous reviews and was a little shocked at some of them and wondered what I had let myself in for. For example, breakfast. Yes the 'english' style breakfast is cold so have some of the fine array of meats, cheeses and fruits that they have. Or you can always go down into Fuengirola and have an all day english breakfast. YOU ARE IN SPAIN! Forget what you used to have at home.

As for the size of the pool, how big do you want it for goodness sake. On one of our weekends there a party of 30 Swedes turned up for a wedding. They all got in the pool at the same time and there was plenty of room. Jees! Olympic size it is not but you are in a Cotijo style small country hotel.

Someone marked it down (gave it a terrible review in fact) for the complex being painted in white and with the sun shining so bright onto the walls it made the eyes hurt. You are in an area that is famous for the white walled Pueblos.

The golf course is fantastic but definitely not for the faint hearted or beginners. However if you get the chance to play here a few times, you will get used to the little surprises that the Legend that is Seve built into it. It is difficult. The only thing that spoils this club are the large number of British expats that think they own it. Someone mentioned that if staying at the hotel, the walk to the course is uphill and a long one. Well why didn't you use the hotel mini bus service that will take you up and brings you back whenever you want and as many times as you want.

As for a lack of bathroom slippers, get a grip of yourself.

As for the lack of English spoken, you could actually pay some respect and try to learn some of the language of the country you are visiting before you go. They do a great job here of trying to speak english and should not be marked down for their expertise level.

As my title said, this is a good place to stay if you want a peaceful relaxing holiday. You will need a car as the bus service is infrequent. It could be great if the hotel had modernised the rooms as well. On the whole, a good stay and thoroughly enjoyable.

Totally disappointed

My fiancé and I recently stayed here with a group of friends as we were going to a wedding nearby.
Check in went smoothly and our room was ready early. It was clean and comfortable but nothing to write home about.
We stayed by the pool most of the afternoon which was a bit small but did the job.
The main disappointing part of the hotel was the food and the service at the bar/restaurant. The waitress hardly spoke English and I had to use google translate a lot. The wait to get a beer was so long!
The first day 2 Spain isn't football teams had had lunch there and we felt that their happiness and needs were more important than our.
Tables had no waitress service. The wait for the food once we finally got around to ordering was crazy we waited 45 minutes for 4 salads which to be honest was pretty average!
Breakfast the 2nd day wasn't much better, poor choice of fruits, the orange juice was off and the waitress seemed to be under so much pressure she was getting herself into such a state! The scrambled egg was greasy and tasteless, my friends breakfasts looked inedible.
That day we had lunch before getting ready for the wedding at a different location. Our food order took 2 hour!!! So so so disappointing!!! The food wasn't even that tasty but we knew we had a long evening ahead of us.
The following day breakfast was hot buffet that you wouldn't touch with a barge pole it looked so over cooked and this time the peach juice was off. Some of our friends missed breakfast but asked to hair a snack from the bar menu but we were told there wasn't a chef in, what sort of hotel can't prepare you any food????
Our lunch we pre-ordered thinking this would hurry them along and we would get it on time, the chef finally arrived at 1:30 we still didn't get food until 3:00 some of our party 3:30, it wasn't until some of our guests were going to cancel the order it magically appeared.
I did not sign my bill as the food was diabolical and I did not eat it, when it came to paying for the hotel on the last day the bill had been signed by somebody and were told the bill had to be paid or the police would be called (not the manager the police!) meanwhile the manager was nowhere to be seen.
The last night we ate in the restaurant just up the road and it was very nice.
On the last night the bed had been made but sheets on the bed where dirty, some how they had put a dirty sheet on with a questionable brown stain??? This was appalling, it was clearly there on the bottom of the bed. The reception did have he house staff change the bed linen for me.
On the whole the receptionists were very nice and polite but the waitress was so slow with poor English and not very efficient. Maybe the lack of staff in the kitchen and restaurant put a strain on her.
The golf course was average, my husband played twice and said the course was quite poor.
Our friends had the junior suit which was much more spacious and a bit nicer too.
On the whole I would never recommend to stay in this hotel.
