What People are saying

Perfect location for us

If your prime reason for visiting Granada is to see the Alhambra Palace then you couldn't ask for a better location than that occupied by the Alixares. The hotel is literally across the road from the palace so you can be there when it opens without having to travel in from the city centre by bus at taxi. During our stay, we were happy to find that we didn't regret not staying in a more central hotel; the accommodation is comfortable, the facilities are more than adequate (including a very nice outdoor pool) and the hot, cooked breakfast was an added bonus.
We are fit and healthy for our age so the steep walk into town didn't worry us although we chose to take the bus back a couple of times! Additionally, a short walk away from the hotel there is a spectacular viewpoint where you can see and photograph beautiful sunsets...and probably sunrises, too, although we didn't get up early enough to find out! there is a nice bar area in the hotel where we relaxed on several evenings with a bottle of Rioja and a selection of tapas. Beer and wine are comparatively cheap throughout the city - we frequently looked at our bills in disbelief in various venues and thought the waiter had made a mistake because the price seemed so low! We didn't eat any lunches or dinners at the hotel buffet because it seemed a bit overpriced at around 17 euros and the reviews are not entirely complimentary. I think we made the right choice because there are plenty of lovely bars and restaurants in the centre. I would say that this is one of the best value 4* hotels in Granada, in a great location for visiting the Alhambra but perhaps not right for older, less mobile guests.

Nice hotel but eat elsewhere

Elliot S on 11/11/2017 19:30

The hotel and rooms were nice, although the pillows lacked substance. The proximity of the hotel to the Alhambra meant that we didn't have to rush in the morning for our guided tour. However, the hotel is located uphill and driving distance from the town centre. What really let our stay down was the food. We ate the buffet dinner and was presented with a wide range of mediocre dishes. Some derived from Spanish specialities but unfortunately, none of them special. If we hadn't had our breakfast included, I don't think we would have bothered. Even though it turned out to be marginally better than dinner, sweetened machine-made orange juice and frozen churros are not what I'm looking for and, judging by the looks of other guests, neither were they. A nice hotel with attentive service let down by poor cuisine. Shame.

Terrible restaurant!!!

sarhop on 09/11/2017 03:20

We were taken to this hotel's restaurant after an tour of the Alhambra as part of our cruise ship's excursion.
The experience was terrible. Staff was brusque and rude. They refused to give us WIFI information after repeated requests. They also refused to serve coffee after lunch, saying that this was not included in the package.
Their paella was dried out and the shrimp was so dry as to be impossible to peel out of the shell. I had to go to Spain to get the worst paealla I'd ever had.

I'm only thankful that we were here only for a meal and not for a hotel stay.

Ideal for touring the city

sarahlu87 on 19/10/2017 18:20

Perfectly placed for visiting the beautiful city of Granada and walking distance of the Alhambra a 'must see'. My room looked over the mountains and was large and light with super bathroom which had shower, bath and bidet and was spotlessly clean. Comfy bed and wall mounted TV. Spacious restaurant serving an amazing breakfast choice. The buffet dinner we had was lovely. Roof terrace and pool were great to just chill in the late October heat. Would thoroughly recommend and would love to go back one day.

Good hotel close to the Alhambra

GF_Gavin on 19/10/2017 17:10

This hotel is ideally located just a few minutes' walk from the Alhambra, the main tourist attraction in Granada - and it's worth going to Granada just to see that (N.B.: make sure you book ahead, or you're unlikely to get in, as visitor numbers are limited each day).
The Alixares is a really good hotel, very comfortable and clearly well run. Set on a wooded hillside and in a very quiet location away from traffic noise, it's large and spacious. Bedrooms are really large - and mine had a big balcony too. The bathroom was also spacious, with a bath and shower. The room also had air conditioning, a small fridge, and the bed was comfortable, though pillows very soft. The rooms were very clean and cool.
There's a spacious and attractive bar with light snacks on offer, and an outside covered terrace area to sit. There's also a swimming pool.
The lifts seemed a bit unreliable when I stayed, so I preferred to use the stairs where a beautiful tiled wall was an unexpected treat.
Buffet breakfast was good, with plenty of choice of hot and cold food. Scrambled eggs were really good and not the solid mass that appears in many hotels. The buffet dinner on offer was a bit uninspired and I preferred to go down into the city.
The hotel's location by the Alhambra means the city centre with its cathedral and Royal Chapel, shops, restaurants etc is about 20 minutes' walk away. The route is also quite steeply downhill, so you may want to get one of the two buses that go near the hotel - and certainly get them back! Or, taxis are cheap and plentiful so it's not a problem. And it's definitely worth going to the area around the cathedral for dinner as there is a wealth of good tapas bars and restaurants there. There's very little by the hotel, apart from a pizzeria which I didn't try.
