Clean, friendly pension in an interesting area of Vienna

This isn't really a hotel, it's a family-run traditional "pension". The outside of the building (and indeed the street when you arrive) don't look very inviting, but it's a good place to stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful (apart from one slightly grumpy old guy). The room was large, not modern (the sort of furniture you would expect in a retro Austrian pension) but very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean. There is a room safe but you have to ask at reception to get the key for it. The wifi and TV are fine. No tea/coffee making facilities in room. The breakfasts were very nice, especially the warm rolls and delicious jams. Although it's not in central Vienna, it's easy to walk into the centre or catch a tram or the metro. We explored the Neubau area (head towards Westbahnstrasse) and found lots of interesting hipster-type shops and lots of good restaurants and cafes. If you like bike shops, camera shops, model railways or climbing shops, you've come to the right area. We also had three delicious dinners - one at the Gastwirthaus Schilling just near the hotel, one at the I Torrino excellent Italian restaurant a few blocks away, and one at the Tata Vietnamese restaurant. All very good and cheaper than eating in the tourist trap central restaurants.
The only downside of this hotel was that I thought there was supposed to be a swimming pool available but the staff never mentioned it and it's not mentioned in the hotel welcome book either at all. Maybe they don't have use of it any more? We could have asked but were too busy to make a big deal of it. I would stay at the Alla Lenz again if in Vienna.
Good location, could do with an upgrade.

My first impression of the hotel was that it didn't answer my expectations from what i booked on hotels.com. However we was greeted with a fantastic staff that was so helpful and nice. The room meets your needs for the right money, but the interior is taking you back to the seventies. There was no safe in the room, but is has a minibar. The location is within walking distance to the centre of Vienna (15 min walk). The hotel has a "swimmingpool", but it is more a giant bathtube. But my son loved it and we enjoyed every moment and we have booked to come back. I will recommend the hotel now that i have stayed here for a few days. You will also find one of Viennas best wienersnitzel in a restarant close by.
Very nice hotel in a big city

We stayed here for four days in early June. The weather perfect, great to have airconditioning in the room. This small hotel is in a great location for visiting Vienna. The Underground, S bahn and buses are very close. Once you figure out, with the help of the knowledgeable hotel owner, how to get around you are set. Our room was adequate, it had a European version of a King size bed. Good thing we like firm! The breakfast, wonderful, if you are very early they will boil your eggs to order. And, there is a very nice resteràunt a few steps down the street. Apparently there is a hotel pool in the large building adjacent to the main hotel, we didn't partake. We did a night at the Opera and took a cab home under €8. Make sure you have a card from the hotel to show cab drivers.
Great value, friendly staff

We had a triple on the first (second for you Americans) floor. On my previous trips to Europe, the beds were less than comfortable. Not here, they were great. The room was very clean, air conditioned and quiet, with enough room to move around and spots to put our luggage out of the way. The bathroom was clean and roomy enough to move in, with space for toiletries. There is an elevator, small but works fine. Breakfast was good, with cold meats and cheeses, cereals, breads, fruit, cakes and croissants, and yogurt and jams, with your choice of teas, juice or coffee. The staff was very accommodating with helping us negotiate the public transportation system. Unfortunately we never got a chance to use the pool, so I can't comment one way or the other. Down at the end of the street was a good place to eat, and not expensive. I would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I spent four nights and found everything about it to be beyond our expectations. The room was clean and well appointed. The location was great---very close to the 48a bus which got us into the Ring in mere minutes. Breakfast was well executed every day and the dining room was very nicely done. Pretty much everything about it suited our travel style to a 'T'. Some friendly and comfortable restaurants very close by (be sure to try the Shilling just down the block).
I will definitely stay here again when we return to this beautiful city.
