Obsolete hotel, bad management
zsigmond on 27/03/2016 21:08
This is a badly managed, “traditional” Austrian ski hotel, which means, that nothing has changed in the last 30 years :-(
First start with the fact, that we payed EUR 460 per night for a family room in late March. Family room means, that you get two small connected rooms, and one room DOES NOT HAVE REAL WINDOWS (just a small, 20 cm high “window" just below the ceiling).
We arrived on Thursday evening. The road to the hotel is only safe with a 4wd vehicle, very icy, very long and narrow (the hotel itself is maybe a 15-20 minutes drive from the city center). In the front of the hotel we were unable to park the car, because there are no signed parking places, everybody parks where they find a small place. The hotel staff (I have seen only one receptionist) is unable to handle the situation) We were lucky, because the receptionist gave me her place to park, and she parked just behind us.
The road in front of the hotel is always very icy, they dont’t do anything with that, it is life-threatening, I slipped, and fallen on my right hands. I was unable to use my hands for 3 days. Parking with your car is also a nightmare, imagine an icy slope overloaded with expensive cars, this is what they name parking lot. Not to mention, that at the end of the day, you arrive skiing into the parking lot.
You could smell cigarette smoke everywhere in the hotels common areas. One day they served buffet dinner, in the other dining room, where many people mainly outside the hotel were smoking.
The hotel itself is not situated on a ski piste. It is very complicated to get to the piste and also to get back home, They operate a small children lift, which brings you up to the next hotel. But this lift didn’t work on several days. The ski route to the closest “normal” lift is very narrow, badly maintained, and you often have to climb up.
The route back to the hotel form the nearest piste is also badly maintained, there was no snow on several spots which is very dangerous.
They try to prepare non-Austrian food, but the quality is average. The breakfast choice is very limited.
You have to pay CASH at the waiter every time at every meal if you order a drink, like mineral water. It is unbelievable.
The rooms are very basic, like in a 3 star hotel. The safe is too small, you cannot put every valuables in it.
They have an obsolete WIFI, extremely slow, and you have to connect each of your smartphone or computer with a different, complicated user name and password. And you have to reconnect several times a day. There is no 3G network in the valley, so you have to use their wifi if you plan to use internet.
There is no place to dry your wet clothes, because in the rooms they have floor heating below the floor mat, and of course you cannot controll the heating.
The view is beautiful from the hotel.
Most of the staff tried to do their best, but it was obvious, that there is no real management in the hotel.
Best hotel for skiing vacations

Lovely hotel in the mountains that consists of hotel itself with rooms and numerous cottages.
Very friendly and easy atmosphere. I was afraid that for dinner I had to take evening dresses etc, but no, everything is very relaxed here.
I was here for the first time, but my family and friends are coming here for the 4th time (and they have seen a lot, even after Zermatt, Méribel and Courchevel they are coming back always here)
Guests are mainly aged 30+, families or big companies of friends, less couples and no crying kids:-)
Free Wi Fi
Just perfect location!
Picturesque place just in the mountains with wonderful mountain view and close to ski lifts. it helps to save on your precious time on the way to lifts or cable car.
In the same time it is not boring here in the evening, almost every evening there is live music in the bar, where you can dance and sing and there are many other entertainments (that personally I have no time to try)
I don't know if it is advantage or disadvantage but there are no distracting shops and there are no nearby other hotels or bars, but I believe it is perfect because what you get here is enough and you never get bored.
Connection to the village is taxi that costs 30 euro.
Service and people. Super nice and helpful staff. I would say people are not employees but friends, almost family members, they can always advise, assist and what I like the most people here are not robots, but genuinely feel free, act free and that creates very relaxed and easy atmosphere.
My favourites are Matthäus at bar and Angi at reception. It is just fantastic what they can do for you. They find always!!! time for you to listen, to advise, to help. Love you, guys!
These people create the atmosphere where there are no problems and whatever you need or like can be done, delivered or solved.
Food. I love it!!!
We had prepaid dinners at hotel. And every day we had something new. Mainly you can get only local food in restaurants and cafes in the area (e.g. sausages, potatoes, cabbage, stew etc.). But here there were day of Italian cuisine, barbecue, french dishes, some local specialties etc. Various dishes and tastes. And there were always a choice of main course dish (meat or fish, pork or lamb, veal or seafood, grilled or stewed, fried or boiled etc.) So you never get bored of dishes.
Dinner for 24 euro consists of soup, starter, main course dish, salad bar and dessert. I believe it is very reasonable price and very tasty.
Wine list is also good, average price for the bottle of wine is 25-30 euro, that you can buy in the shop not cheaper than for 15-20 euro, so I guess that it is fair.
Classical buffet breakfast is also very rich (14 euro per person if I'm not mistaken)
Nice service, always very clean and cosy, waiters can always give good tips choosing the wine, even if the wine is more expensive they can recommend cheaper but better one.
Wonderful sauna complex! With relax area with launge chairs where you can sit or lay and sleep and with amazing mountain view.
It is free for guests and just fantastic! There are 4 different saunas (dry steam Finnish sauna, infra red, bio and wet steam sauna).
You can also ask for gowns (bathrobe) and slippers at reception if you don't have ones.
My friends and family, we have rented the cottage (Azurit)
Spacious, clean, comfortable with fireplace and kitchen, with all possible necessary utilities, dish washer, coffee machine, fridge.
2 rooms are with balconies.
Heated floor in bathroom - special thanks for that where I could dry my skiing clothes :-)
Cottage is very warm, more than +20'C,
comfortable mattress and warm light duvets, furniture is not damaged, everything works properly, good sanitary ware, carpeting and wardrobe are in all rooms.
Unique spot i Sölden

In January 2016 we stayed at Hotel Sulbertal for the 3.rd time.
The place is just awesome in a unique spot in 2000 m right on the mountain.
If you go there by car, you do need a solid set of snow chains, and appreciate driving at narrow roads with main sharp turns, to get there (I believe they have a pickup service from town to hotel).
But when you get there you very soon realize it was worthwhile the effort. Hotel is lovely, staff is VERY friendly. Restaurant offers good traditional Austrian food, as well as a good traditional breakfast buffet.
The is a small tow lift literally 10 meters from the ski storage and then maybe 100 m cross country skiing to the big lifts. Silbertal has its own ski in slope taking you right to the hotel door (less than 1 m from entrance)
There is after skiing in own bar (der kuhstall), but for some it might be a petty that I will cost about 30 euro each way to go down town for more after skiing.
Sölden is our hot spot in the alps, and Silbertal is only making it better!! Strongly recommendable.
Large group for skiiing
LiseFV on 16/02/2016 21:57
The positive things first: the food is wonderful and the staff do their outmost to please. And the area is very clean and neat.
We are a 100+ large skiiing group and have booked our anual tour. We were promised ski in and out. But the ski out is 200-300 meters long and very flat. The ski in is steep and narrow.
We are many families with children and are up from 7am and mostly in bed by 9pm (to get the most out of skiiing) and the children are playing and I dont hear them but complaints have been made. There have been no quarels among the children just joy.
There are only 60 bathropes for the entire hotel.
The receptionists are not problem solvers but very strict.
All purchases below 30 euros is cash and you can't have a room bill!
The restaurant is under staffed.
And dont stay in room 205 as you can hear every toilet move around.
The skiiing are is nice. Especially the gletcher and the fun park.
Awkward rules

Sauna closes for hotel guests at 18:00, payment is eather cash at the table or by credit card at front desk only, no billing on the room with end of stay settlement. Biggest minus is the front office staff. Too bad as the hotel is nice and well located into a remote area with nice sorroundings and views.
