Place to remember

On arriving it wasn't what we expected, but the whole place is an enjoyable experience and anyone who can't find it good for a stay should stick to stereo type hotels with no history, we stayed for 1night as we were attending a wedding in a tree house in town ,another amazing experience, the rooms are all different, and I mean different the lounge is odd with an open fireplace, you can take your own drinks and enjoy a good night's get together in front of the fire even late on as we did ,the breakfast is good, all you need, the staff are very friendly and helpful ps don't knock it if you don't try it .

Very Disappointing

Decided to book at the last minute here for an evening away. Phoned the lodge direct to book and quoted £75 for the night. I later looked on Trip Advisor to see the evening on there was £62!! We arrived just after 7pm and was greeted by a pleasant lady who showed us to our room. My face would have said it all as it was like walking in to an outdated room. I visited the toilet to find a spare loo roll covered in thick black furry dust. The towels were so small and really washed out rough horrible things. The bed creaked continuously with the slightest movement. The boiler made horrendous noises all through the night and the heating was obviously on a timer as it went off and left our room really cold. We got up early for breakfast basically as we had been awake most of the night. We went down for breakfast and were the first ones down. There were 3 huge dining room tables set up. The table cloths were so badly stained and toast crumbs all over them obviously from the days previous. The tea cups were chipped, the sugar in a dispenser whch was so damp it wouldn't come out. There were 2 dirty toasters with bread for you to toast yourself. The bread was stale. A gentelman came out eventually and said cooked breakfast? No 'how has your night been' no choice of eggs etc etc. The breakfast came which consited of 1 fried egg which was solid, 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, 3 pieces of mushroom, 2 pieces of tomato with a slither of green pepper in between and a teaspoon of beans. We picked at breakfast and got our case and left.

The Lodge has the potential to be a lovey establishment but they need to give the place a good clean and provide a hearty breakfast. It is a lovely building which could end up being a really good place to stay.

Truly quirky and welcoming

We had a lovely last minutes trip to this beautiful part of the UK, the lodge is very well located, just off the A1, we received a warm welcome and enough local information to go for an enjoyable dinner at a local pub, discount tickets and recommendations for walks and castle visits and beaches etc, great breakfast that sets you up for the day. This place is quirky in a great way, but go stay and see what I mean by that! Alnmouth, Alnwick castle, well worth visits, but check opening dates. For sure go to Lindisfarne, we did the walk, well worth it.

We did not stay!

This is the first time I have ever left a bad review..We booked a 'Double Premium Ensuite Coachmans Lodgings which was very expensive for a B&B but I thought it looked quirky and fun. We arrived to find we had to pick our way through what seemed to be a junk yard and brick brac shop, up narrow wooden stairs to a room that was boiling hot because the heating had been turned up - but with no opening windows, so no way to cool it down. A basic bathroom with a tiny, narrow, dated shower cubicle smelt damp, and a water tank was situated in the roof of the bedroom and every time anyone else in the hotel used water, it made a high pitched groaning squeal- so no chance of a quiet night. And the final straw was that there was no exit (since the windows did not open) apart from the narrow wooden staircase and a fire hazard below us with rooms full of junk piled up the walls - if there had been a fire we would not have stood a chance. The owner was very apologetic and gave me a full refund even though their T&Cs said they would not, but she insisted they had all necessary fire certificates, which surprised us but I guess they must have in order to be in business. We decided it was not a place we would enjoy staying in. She did show me another room in an effort to get us to stay and that looked a lot better - surprisingly as I'd splashed out on the one we booked which was the most expensive at the time of booking. Perhaps we were unlucky and perhaps they have rectified the water tank and windows and old shower etc by now- but if you go here I'd say just don't stay in the room we chose and check that the windows open!

Interesting and quirky place to stay

We stayed here for one night in the Hayloft in September 2017 as part of an onward trip further up north. Generally, you want a comfortable bed, good shower and nice breakfast - which is all I am looking for.
The room was comfortable and clean and the shower good although very small but all those things were adequate.
The two positives is you sat in the main dining room on large tables which encouraged you to speak to other visitors and the fresh baked bread.. The two minuses was the tinned fruit in syrup which I don't think my Nan has eaten since 1974! The other was a particularly small cooked breakfast with one sausage, one rasher of bacon, one egg, three mushrooms (literally!), beans and two halves of a tomato - very disappointing. In my opinion the breakfast needs an update into the 21st century with alternatives offered i.e. croissants, fresh fruit and yoghurt!
If you want an alternative place to stay then this is an interesting, quirky, shabby chic and bohemian place to stay.
