Budget Accommodation

The ambassadors hotel is not 5 star accommodation and doesn't pretend to be. If you are after budget accommodation requiring a bed and a shower and don't intend to be in your room all day, the ambassadors hotel will fit the purpose. Clean sheets, shower and minor room amenities. The building is extremely old, so too are the rooms so don't expect much, but the place has an old world charm which we warmed to during our stay. Great staff, cold beer, cute beer garden and right accross from the tram.

Get what you pay for.... if the price is too good to be true then don't stay!

They charge a $100 deposit when you check in and they should be the ones paying guests $100 to stay there. Receptionist was friendly and the building has potential, however "flea pit" is what came to my mind. It was a cheap deal but I have stayed in country hotels that were the same price, cleaner and better for ones health!
The bed was comfortable and sheets clean! The smell of cigarette smoke wafts through the hallways, carpets are filthy as is the tea and coffee setting on top of the fridge, shower was hot and plenty of water but filthy shower curtain and paint peeling off the shower walls and mould growing happily around the edges. If I hadn't been so tired and it being so late in the day, I would have walked out and tried to find something else. Breakfast: stale bread that fell apart when I went to take a slice out of the packet! It is what it is, but the housekeeping department could pay a lot more attention to detail when cleaning. One does get what one pays for unfortunately,if one is on a budget then I think there are cleaner budget places to stay in Adelaide.

Centrally located hotel

A short stay in a vintage style hotel, breakfast included although the only hot items were tea coffee etc and /or toast. Mostly cereals and some fresh fruit. The breakfast was adequate and the lady operating the venue was kind enough to start a little earlier to enable me to enjoy breakfast and not compromise an early departure.
The accommodation, gained at a special price, was okay for a two night stay. The room and facilities were not quite the same as pictured on their website. The bed was, as so often the case, two large singles joined together to make a king double, the mattress seemed a little beyond its use by date, so a little soft but sleep did come eventually. The curtains of light material were held closed with a clothes peg! Arrived on Saturday afternoon and there were many noisy gatherings nearby til around 1am. The property is adjacent to popular bars, which if you want to go for a drink etc is a good thing! The bathroom was clean nothing fancy with good pressure and heat in the shower. The basin and walls though were showing signs of desperation for the need of renovating, Paint peeling off the tiles where a quick spruce up had taken place some years earlier. The usual bargain basement coffee and teas provided and a very quick kettle. If you prefer fresh milk rather than the little uht capsules then you need to buy some, shops are very close!!No sneezing from dust allergies, so the room I must say was clean, but,not five star clean. The elevator in this hotel is known by many locals. It must be from the 1920s, an amazing ride. There are stairs if you prefer a bit of exercise and you will know you are using them as most of the occupant will due to the loud creaking this includes the flooring, so persons moving about are quite clearly heard. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and are on hand 24/7. The main entrance is locked by 3 am most mornings until 5am, but, if you are out partying ring the doorbell and staff will let you in. TV (digital) is in the room but the signal often becomes interrupted. Doesn't matter, you are on holiday so get out and enjoy Adelaide. This is a budget hotel and to expect 5 star amenities would be foolhardy, definately 3 stars and you can feel secure in your surroundings. I would stay here again, on my own as I did last time.

Extremely tired old hotel around 1920 vintage by the looks of the antique lift and room shocking, rusty bathtub.

Bevan S on 05/10/2017 14:39

The bathtub had a rust stain down to plug hole, bathroom walls were filthy and wall in bedroom appeared to have water damage with plaster and paint peeling off. The hotel appeared to not have anything don't since built. By the looks in the 1920/30s with the lift doors having to be opened and shut one after the other by hand.

A very tired hotel with lots of potential charm

Acceptable for the price if all you want is a bed and shower for a night.
This is an old style building that is very run down. With a bit of effort and a lot of money it could be uplifted to a great hotel.
The rooms are a good size and generally clean but very run down. The air conditioning is just a unit stuck in the window and is very noisy.
Location is good as can be in the middle of Adelaide.
