What People are saying

Good times, bad times

VncrCanada on 15/10/2017 04:05

We had a mixed experience at this place. Would not choose the cottage again.

The good:

- excellent check in, the guy at the front desk was super helpful and friendly.
- affordable rates compared to other accommodations in the region
- awesome location on the historic main street: restaurants/ services within walking distance, with the hotel itself quiet, set back off of the main drag.
- good things about the cottage were the comfortable beds and some new features in the kitchen such as the nicely tiled floor. And the bathroom was properly clean. (Sadly, other features in the kitchen such as the cupboards and drawers were rickety with the drawers sticking). The cottage seemed to be a work in progress with further renos definitely needed.
- No issues at all with parking.

The bad:

- The gas stove in the kitchen had a problem with the pilot light, overwhelming smell of propane gas when we got there. The front desk guy was very helpful and promptly fixed it. But the next night, the pilot light went out again, horrible smell of gas again! This time there was a lady at the front desk that we reported it to. She said she'd send someone over but she never did. So we suffered all night with stinky gas fumes!
- The windows, especially in the kitchen, were a complete. disaster! Trying to open them to get rid of the smell of gas was a nightmare. First, the window above the kitchen sink was completely broken, cracked, metal bent, no way to open it. Then the grungy curtains, broken venetian blinds, and grimy window sills on the two large kitchen windows and on the window beside the main entrance presented more obstacles. Two of the blinds would not go up, so we could open the slats only, and had to reach through to fiddle with the rickety metal hardware that was very dificult to unlock. The window by the main entrance would then only open a crack. The two in the kitchen opened wider but the only one that had the blind that went all the way up, was missing the screen so we couldn't leave it open.
- There were glass jars for drinking water by the front entrance just outside the breakfast room but they were never once filled with water. There is no sink in the breakfast room so no drinking water at all with the breakfast.

Comfortable, enjoyable stay

Nice, historic hotel with clean, updated rooms and decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice continental breakfast (coffee, juice, toast, cereal, fruit) Parking pretty much limited to street but not a problem...

Quaint Rooms but above and beyond Service

Thebudtravels on 03/08/2017 00:45

We had two of the cottages, both were clean, well maintained, the beds were so comfortable. The property managed and cared for and still being upgraded. The Owners and their family were very nice and helpful but Maher went above and beyond when we had gone to Yosemite for the day on our way home our radiator split and we had to be towed. They could only take two of us in the tow truck and we were 1/2 way to Jamestown. We called Maher to find out if she knew if Uber or something ran that way. She asked where we were and said she new the spot and would come get two of us. This was at 9pm after a long hot day working. The next day they had no problem with us having to work on the car in their parking lot. This was Fourth of July Weekend. We will definitely be back. Even if They had not been so gracious. I can tell you if you want a small town, quality for price and loads of history this is where you want to stay. Trust me when I say that some of the reviews I read were just plain wrong.

Had a good stay

Enjoyed our stay in this cute old quaint hotel. Pros: Great location and resonably priced. Parking really wasn't a problem, can park out front if space available or down the side alley which is a little tight but do-able. Cons: Rod iron headboard in room was visibly dusty...could see it! :( . Also strip at bathroom door entrance was loose and would be nice to have a box of kleenex in the room. Including packets of oatmeal would be a nice inexpensive addition to the sparse continental breakfast.

Loved It

This place was great. One of the best Hotels I've ever stayed at. The staff was extremely nice and very helpful with best places to eat in the area and directions to those places. They made sure me and my wife felt welcomed taken care of and I definitely will be staying here again when I come back in the area.
