Best in Lusk

After staying 3 times at the Best Western across the street, this year our hunting party stayed at the Covered Wagon and I have to say they have completely won me over in terms of value. I still like the BW and the staff there, but the amenities at the Wagon are superior. We lucked into this only because the Best Western did not return our phone calls about reservations.
Rooms:
We were a group of 8 hunters, staying 2 to a room. So we got a block of rooms in the 2nd floor section of the motel, which is only 5 rooms, everything else is typical ground floor drive up to the front door motel. At first I rolled my eyes at this: being on a hunting trip we had a ton of gear, at least 2 rifles each, lots of plastic totes and gear bags and coolers for drinks and food since we would spend all day in the field. Once I set foot in the rooms however, I was pleased. The upstairs rooms with 2 queens were huge, I can't speak for the ground floor rooms. This was great for spreading out all our gear. Across the street, this led to a pretty cramped room.
The room was also always spotlessly clean. We took care to not drag too much dirt and sagebrush back into the room but you get dirty being out on the prairie all day. Every day the room was cleaned within an inch of it's life. Plus other nice touches you would not expect in a normal motel like decorative folding of the towels each day. There were also higher end soaps and shampoos too, which I did not use since I brought my own unscented stuff. And there was always plenty hot water.
Beds were super comfy as were the pillows. One favorite thing was that they had these very heavy quilt-like comforters on top of the beds. With the temp cranked down and snuggled under the comforters I got my 5-6 hrs of sleep a night like a baby.
Advantage: Wagon.
Breakfast:
It was good, well staffed but it wasn't great. They do rotate the menu every day which is very nice, but they need to add some more fruit than just apples. It might be an unfair comparison with the Best Western because they had a homemade breakfast casserole to die for; but the flip side is that BW only opened the breakfast early (5am) for the first week of hunting season whereas the Wagon seems to open breakfast at 5am every day. It was a good spread and a very pleasant lounge-like room, just add some more fruit and yogurt to go along with the eggs and sausage because I eat them all. Nice room with big tables we could all sit at.
Advantage: Wagon
Other amenities
Sadly, I didn't bring swimsuit nor would I have ever had time to swim in the awesome looking indoor heated pool in separate poolhouse. I would really have liked to but our schedule never allowed. I did frequently see people enjoying it as early as 5:30am.
There is a nice park area with bbq, etc where people would hang out and party in the courtyard.
Advantage: Wagon because the BW pool is outdoors and summer only. They do have a nice but smaller courtyard park.
The gift shop of tacky tourist stuff probably could be better selling actual practical items. I found it a waste of space.
Please cut back on the near lethal concentration of air fresheners in the hallways.
Overall, they are very accommodating to hunters, keep the rooms in good repair and spotlessly clean. I would stay here again. Did see that the Best Western is upping the ante by doing a big addition, which is probably an expansion of their closet-like breakfast room, maybe even a full restaurant. We will see.
The upstairs rooms do all fact US-20 at the traffic light which I expected to be noisy but it never bothered me.
This is probably the best place in lovely little Lusk to stay right now.
Pleasant stay

A pleasant hotel in the main street of Lusk. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Being located on a corner there is some noise from trucks at night.
The included breakfast was much better than expected compared to other hotels with inclusive breakfasts. The hotel is located near a cafe and restaurant.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.
Best customer service

Stopped in Lusk overnight on way to Denver from Devil's Tower- a convenient mid way point. The town is small and the accommodations are limited. Finding the Covered Wagon was a hidden treasure. Don't get me wrong- this is not a 5 star hotel but the room was spacious and inviting and the customer service was spectacular. Randy at the front desk was wonderful- he greeted me with a smile and when I found out there was no elevator to my 2nd floor room he offered to carry my luggage and also proceeded to offer me a room on the first floor; he kindly showed my family both choices and let us pick! On top of that, my son accidentally left his jacket and earbuds in the room and we didn't realize till the next day when we had driven 5 hours south. When we called the motel, we asked on a lark if they could mail it home and Randy graciously said he would- that is going above and beyond. Thanks so much! And as an added plus there was free hot/cold breakfast in a very quaint room on the first floor.
This is an okay place...not fancy but it will do

This place is old and not recently updated but considering the location, its fine. It offers an ok breakfast and if you check in late just be sure to call them and the let them know. They will meet you at the door. I really enjoyed the rustic country charm here, its not fancy but it will take you back in time.
Best stay ever!!

This is a fantastic place to stay! Every member of the staff was super friendly and helpful. Upon check in we were given ideal local restaurant suggestions. Our king room was extremely spacious and comfortable. The towels were large and soft. The bed was so comfortable we had the best sleep ever at a motel. It was also super clean and fresh. Water pressure and temperature in the shower was perfect! Located in the heart of town we had easy access to everything. The made to order omelets were so delicious and the ambience was perfect on the outside patio. If you ever happen to be in Eastern Wyoming this is the perfect place to stay!!
