Dirty room and appalling customer service!
Katie Jon 02/11/2017 03:07I have stayed at Anaco Bay Inn in the past and it had been a pleasant experience so I was very surprised by our treatment this time around.
For my birthday getaway, my husband and I decided to spend a night in Anacortes. We checked in and walked into our room. It wasn't anything spectacular, but you get what you pay for. After checking in we didn't really do anything other than put our bags down and go to dinner. After we finished dinner we went back to our room and things went downhill quickly. I was excited to see the jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, but when I looked closer I discovered dirty shoe prints in the tub! Gross! We pulled back the bed sheets and discovered stains on the sheets! Well, if the tub and the sheets aren't clean, then what else isn't clean? My husband contacted the front desk immediately, but no answer. It was only 10:00PM. He left the room and used the buzzer at the front desk. No answer. We must have called from our room, called the business line, and buzzed the front desk almost a dozen times and NEVER received a response after 30 minutes of trying. There was NO WAY were staying. We put the keys in the drop box and went to the hotel across the way. My husband left a message with the hotel to let them know what had happened, we were leaving, and we expected a refund. The next morning an employee called us and apologized and told us that the manager would call on Monday and also told us we would get our money back. Well, guess what? Monday rolled around and no phone call. No refund. Tuesday - same. Wednesday my husband had to call the hotel and ask what's up? The employee he spoke with told us that WE were the ones who had dirtied the room and that, no, we would not be getting a refund. Appalling behavior! I have never had such poor treatment from a hotel ever. Stay somewhere else. This place was beyond a disappointment.
Hell at Anaco Bay inn
jandA3536RCon 07/10/2017 12:26We have stayed here for approx. 5 years in the summer. Every year it has gone down hill in amenities, service and how we are treated. The breakfast is lame. Waffles are freezer waffles. Only eggs are hard boiled. Furniture is worn out and uncomfortable, low watt lighting hurts our eyes. We used a flash light to read. Refrigerator leaked water on the floor. Very few dishes supplied and what was, was old and worn out. Quality of the TV picture is poor and lack of channels available. We were required to pay in advance for all nights. We scheduled to stay 4 night but they only gave us 3 nights. We discovered this error by receiving an urgent phone call after we had left the room for the day. The female manager said we had to vacate the room because it was for another guest. We rushed back to the hotel and spoke with female manager at the front desk. She said we could stay in the "family" unit in the back of the building. She gave us a discount but the rate of the unit was higher then the room we had. There was an event happening in town and places were full. We are seniors and disabled, we felt there was no option. The female manager said we could put all of our belonging in the family unit but it was still being cleaned. We went up to the room we were in to discover the male manager locked the door so the key we had would not work. We had to find him to open the door. We were not comfortable leaving all our items in the unsecured family unit but we did leave our food that needed to be refrigerated. (We stay in a motel with a frig because we eat there). We returned to the family unit in the evening after being with ailing aging parent. We went to frig and all our food was gone. We called front desk. We were told by female manager she would contact house keeping. We returned from the grocery store to find our eggs on the door step with a note from housekeeping saying the eggs were the only item that was salvaged. (We had unopened large tea, soda, milk, salad, salad dressing, carrots, yogurt and eggs). When we checked out the following morning the female manager was at front desk. The manager did not say one word about our food that was removed by maid. No reimbursement or apology. We paid more money for the family unit that was in horrid condition. The toilet seat came off while it was in use. There is broken tile in the bathroom on the floor. TV is old tube style. Furniture is painful to sit on. We had to move around to find a place to sit that didn't jab us. Blinds were bent and didn't work well. Curtains were thin and didn't keep street light out. It was hot upstairs and only one window had a screen on it so we could have it open. Kitchen had drawers that were broken and didn't close. We did not feel safe in the family unit that was clearly not kept up and repairs done were done at lowest cost possible. Anyone planning to stay here we recommend getting documentation, confirmation and being watchful of management taking advantage of you.
A very disappointing experience!
Jose Ton 02/10/2017 17:11I booked 7 rooms, for 2 nights, 9 months in advance and paid a huge deposit (over $1000) that was immediately charged to my credit card. A week later, one of my party called, identified himself as part of our group, and asked to put the deposit on his credit card. Instead, the clerk made a new reservation and added it to our existing 7 reservations. Seems like a simple mistake? No! The hotel manager said that it was our “fault”…not the clerk’s, not even a misunderstanding, but our “fault” and that she was keeping our deposit for the extra room. After several long discussions, she agreed to refund half of the deposit back, but only in the form of a room credit to be used within a year. Next, we had several in our party who had to leave a day early. I discussed this with the manager a week or so prior to our arrival and she said since it was a busy weekend and she knew of the problem well in advance, she thought she would be able to rent their rooms, in which case she would refund their second night. Later, when I spoke to her about the refunds, she denied that she’d said she would refund the second night. When I reminded her of our conversation in which she’d told me exactly that, she backed down but said she hadn’t rented their rooms. When I told her that I’d checked with the desk clerk on check out and was told that all the rooms except two had been rented, the manager told me that the clerk was wrong and refused any refunds. (Clearly, this individual has figured out that if you can keep someone’s deposit and re-rent the room, you can double your profits!) Lastly, before the manager would refund even part of my deposit, I was asked to ok the refund amount. I emailed her back and said I accepted her calculations, but was disappointed with how things had worked out. She instructed me to email her again, to just write “OK,” and not to include any additional comments in the email. I had to email her back and say, “OK,” nothing more, before she would issue me a refund! All in all, it was a bad experience for our group and a particularly disappointing interaction with the manager. Caveat emptor!
Great place...
Altagoldon 22/09/2017 16:12Yes the property is older and a bit dated, but very comfortable. The room is large with a very functional kitchenette. You could spend either a night or a week here comfortably. Beds very comfortable, room very clean, and good big bathroom. Location is walkable from restaurants and grocery stores. There are two floors and no elevator so if you need to, you can request the main floor.
