Amazing stay on Barge
Mags10129on 17/11/2017 20:58Stayed in the Loch Tarbert cabin. Absolutely amazing. Luxuriously decorated. Really comfortable bed. Petit fours were delicious. Meals were eaten in the Anchor Hotel across the road. Excellent food. Can highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Will definitely book again.
Worth avisit
COOKSCHOOLon 14/11/2017 16:45Although the outside of the barge needed painting nothing prepared us for the gorgeous room we were taken to in the Barge. It was extremely well appointed, the bed was very comfortable and fixtures and fittings excellent. The room had almost everything, humidifier, radio, fan, iron and ironing boards, huge bathroom with walk in shower and to cap it all tea and coffee making facilities and 2 armchairs and a table at the window set with a bottle of wine and a slate with petit fours.
The restaurant in the Anchor hotel across the road was so good we ate there both nights. The chefs are to be commended for the the variety of the menu and the excellent fresh food presented and served. The fish is so fresh well worth trying. I must say the hotel was looking very fresh and clean when we visited and the staff could not have been more helpful. We will definitely return
Enjoyable but some issues...
BrockieGlasgowon 04/11/2017 17:26We booked a room on the barge, to join our friends who were celebrating a birthday, paying £150 to include petit fours, wine on arrival, dinner, bed & breakfast. On arrival, we were shown to the door of our room on the barge, but not inside. When we entered we found the room to be on the small side, especially in comparison to that occupied by our friends, at the same cost. Ours was the room at the stern of the barge. We immediately noticed some stained carpet and made this known to the reception, but no action was taken. On our own investigation it was clear that the dehumidifier in the room was leaking (photos are included to show the extent of the leak) and carpet was saturated. Despite reporting this, no action was taken and we were simply advised that no other rooms were available. This was not going to spoil our visit, and we tried to ignore the inconvenience. The rooms on the barge are nicely renovated, albeit the barge itself and it's fittings are in need of more than a little care and attention. We had to request petit fours and the wine, which we agreed would be served with our meal in the restaurant. The petit fours were delivered to the room, although our friends chocolates were sent to other guests in a different room entirely. As far as the restaurant was concerned, we could not have asked for more. The head chef has put together a menu to cater for all tastes and the quality of the preparation, flavour and presentation was absolutely perfect... every course was stunning and the service was attentive and efficient. Equally, the breakfast was tasty, locally sourced and a perfect start to our day. Overall, as a group we were delighted with our stay, however we were very disappointed at the lack of care and failure to deal with what was a serious flaw in the standard of accommodation.
It's a 10 from us!!!
Andrea Ion 02/11/2017 13:21Our arrival was very warm and welcoming by a gentleman called Mark who checked our ferry crossing and was there throughout our stay. Small bathroom but lovely touches with the Aran Aromatic toiletries and lovely warm towels on the electric rail. The restaurant was amazing hats off to those chefs! The fish linguine was stunning in look and flavours wish my camera wasn't on charge otherwise I would post the pictures . Such beautiful flavours and ample fish with king prawns , scallops and mussels my Hubble opted for the mussels and frites.
An early night was in order due to two bad hotels the previous nights and we slept for 10 solid hours, comfy bed with cotton bedding nice duvet and pillows.
Breakfast was just the final icing to our stay it was beautiful I had smoked haddock and poached egg and hubbie had the full Scottish breakfast.
Fabulous stay, wonderful people, some great shops where we purchased four local artist pictures and then found a fish supplier who packed our car boot full of supplies to bring back to Yorkshire .
Defiantly will be back
Thank you
Enjoyable visit
motherwell1991on 28/10/2017 01:15We recently enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Anchor. Room was very clean and modern. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and food and drink were reasonably priced.
Breakfast was a delight with the haddock and poached eggs delicious one morning and a cooked Scottish the next.
Dinner was also lovely and is reviewed separately.
We'll definitely return soon with some friends who're keen to visit asap.
As a tip to other potential guests, the staff told us to phone direct if we saw any offers on rival websites and they would match them.
Our room was on the second floor but wasn't too much of a problem despite the lack of a lift.
