What People are saying

Perfect

Donna B on 02/10/2017 12:22

My husband and I stayed at Mar Blau for four nights 24th-28th September, and we loved it there, the apartments are well equipped, very clean, we had a one bedroom and our terrace overlooked the sea (in the distance), there are two pools, we used the big pool, near the snack bar. There are plenty of sun loungers and the pool area is very clean.

I wish we'd stayed longer.

On arrival Pedro dealt with us promptly and were taken to our room which had just been cleaned, he gave us a map of the local area and various activities, he offered to rearrange our private return transfer for as it was booked very early, he did this with no drama and our transfer arrived on time.

I can't fault the place, it was very reasonably priced and I'd definitely stay there again and recommend to family/friends.

Not far from the complex is Son Bou Gardens which is several smaller complex's combined, there is entertainment and San Jaume, which we really enjoyed.

The area of Son Bou is beautiful and clean, not loads to do but for a week of chilling it's perfect, the beach is a 20 minute walk, but worth it, sandy and the sea was so clear and warm, we visited twice.

Brilliant Week stay

So we just got back from Mar Blau.
We went with 2 kids, 2 and 9 and we had a fantastic time. We arrived about 11.30pm and got show straight to your room. When its dark and you cant see your view you worry and think what have we booked. Until we opened those blacked out curtains in the morning and boom a beautiful sunny day and view of the beach.

The apartment was so clean and the shower was just amazing big enough to wash kids and the pressure was so good.

Kitchen had everything but we did have to go and buy some mugs as the cups of tea are tiny and we are tea pot heads.

we went first week September so around the pool was very quite. The man and wife behind the pool bar are so cute they work everyday and every night. 7 days a week.
we realised there was a second pool on the last day. but the big one was fine.

so the walk was fine to sou bou, thank god we had a pushchair for our 2 year old otherwise we would of taken us hours.

Now the food was just average every where. we went Arthur and had the most awful burger. we tried Budda lounge that was nice tapas and had a Chinese and Indian one night just to get some chicken and rice in our systems.

Overall we had a lovely stay and when we looked at other hotels we thought to ourselfs we choose the best more traditional and quite and just so clean.

Brilliant place

We have just got back from a weeks stay at the villas and I have to say they are a gem.
On arrival at 12 we were shown straight to our modern villa which had patio doors opening on to the pool area. Two sunbeds right outside our door to use at our leisure.
The villa has a modernised kitchen and bathroom and was tidy and functional.
The cleaners visited every day and we're always chatty and polite while reception were courteous always.
Son bou itself is 25 mins walk away where there are several bars and restaurants as well as the lovely beach.
A quiet resort so if your looking for a party place this isn't for you but it had everything we needed.
Anyone going needs to visit Casa Andres for a meal and an absolute must is mai tai for a gin and tonic or a cocktail. Leonardo is the perfect host and takes care of your every need.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable holiday...

Just perfect........

We arrived about 11.30 and were told our apartment wasn't ready yet and to come back at 2, all very friendly and cheerful so we didn't mind too much even after a very early start.... we stored our cases in reception and headed towards the town. We came across the Son Bou Garden resort where we stopped and had a drink and some lunch. I nearly booked here but so pleased we didn't! Headed further into town and took a look round, found the cash machines, of which we used three, two in town and one by the Club San Jaime complex and supermarket. Had a look at the beach whilst we were in the town, you get to it via the massively imposing Milanos Pinguinos hotel.
We stopped off at the supermarket on the way back and got some essentials and headed back. We were early but our apartment was ready and we were shown to it thankfully as a bit of a maze until you have done it a few times. It was perfect, in a really quiet spot by the small pool. The girls 10 and 6 slept on the sofa and a put me up which was fine for them and they slept like logs the whole time. We never sleep well on holiday for some reason so tossed and turned quite a bit. We did ask for extra pillows which did help a bit. The apartment was just right for a beach/pool holiday and there was an outside patio with sun beds/table and chairs.
The shower was ok, powerful but not loads of hot water but it was so hot that we were quite happy with the cool showers. The kitchen was great, oven, hob, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge freezer. I cooked a couple of pasta dishes whilst there and chilli nachos and omelets for breakfast and it was great although could have done with a plastic frying pan turner. They supply a tea towel and kitchen towel plus sponge and cloth which is great as normally we have to buy this from the supermarket. We didn't use the safe at 2 euros a day. The air con was great. The cleaning ladies do a fabulous job, they came every day and cleaned and emptied the bins and made the beds, they really were amazing, always happy and smiling even in the midday heat.
All the restaurants in the town are much of the same, we liked Arthurs, the Buddha Bar but we ate in most of them at least once and all were fine. You don' t have to have chips with everything I think I had them three time in 2 weeks, just asked for rice and salad or potato and salad with my meal and it was great.
The beach is great and we ate at the main beach restaurant twice, once for lunch and once in the evening (you need to book) to see the sunset. There are 3 restaurants along the beach and I was told they are all the same chain/owner. Coffee also great here! We used to borrow a beach umbrella from the reception at Mar Blau and we bought two beach mats and we would plonk ourselves down in view of the sea so we could see the girls, perfect. Apparently the sunbeds on the beach are 17 euros a day!! More money for the mango daiquiris instead!
The beach does get crowded and we did avoid at the weekend as busier but you look out to sea and it doesn't matter. You can walk right down towards the nudist bit which is less crowded but for us it was good to be near the coffee, toilet and showers for the girls.
There is a little kids area in the town with bouncy castles type things, and rides etc, opens at 7pm every evening but we managed to avoid it!
The trek into town and back to the beach and restaurants was ok, it was 20 minutes but in the heat it was really hard work at times, we generally caught the bus into town as it stops right outside the apartments, not once on time in 2 weeks, It costs 1.30 each and took 5 mins, and then walked back. Sometimes we would walk back via the San Jaime complex to see the entertainment there that it on every evening, we saw the boys are back in town, Abba and an African act which were all good fun. We also used the slides at the San Jaime and the pool once day which the girls loved.
We could have hired a car at reception and got a price but it was £40 cheaper in town so we did that instead, guess you just need to shop around a bit.
We visited the harbour at Mahon, Es Castella a very pretty little harbour - ate at Sa Cala on the harbour front, lovely and friendly and the young guy serving had the perfect English accent but has never been to the UK! We also went to Fornells and visited the harbour and then went to the beach at Fornells which is a car ride away over the other side, both were lovely although we had a drink in a café at the harbour here in a place called Hostel La Palma and the young male waiter was very rude to us as we sat at a table that was yet to be cleared, the only table available, with 2 very hot thirsty girls and he was very rude to us and then said something in Spanish loudly about English. We would have left but as I said the girls were so hot and thirsty so we stayed, was a while however before they cleared the table and served us though. Only rudeness encountered the whole time so it was a shame.
We also visited a night market in Es Mercadal which is on a Thursday evening starting at 7pm. Was a lovely little market, bustling and cafes and restaurants open, nice atmosphere. All the roads into the market had been blocked by police cars and all police armed, reassuring but also a little unsettling.
We stayed round the smaller pool most of the time with the odd visit up to the main pool, the girls still made friends although our neighbours the first week were mainly Spanish which was great but they tended to have older children and were out and about most of the day the second week a lovely English family with 2 boys stayed so the girls had constant play mates. The only downside was out swimming costumes all turned green as did the girls floats, we did mention it and were told that the water was checked every day to which we agreed as we had seen it for ourselves, was a bit disappointing, we washed our things ourselves but it didn't budge, then the guy on reception offered to wash them so we gave half the things and it did improve but didn't all come out so I hoped that it would all budge once home, after lots of washing and soaking all but two things are fairly good again.
We ate at the pool bar about 3 times and the food and service was great, we tended to stick to the fish and steak options and the girls pizza or spaghetti.
There were things we didn't get round to doing like a trip on the land train, 6 euros each, looking into the horseriding at the Son Bou Rutes a Cavall next to Jardin de Menorca hotel, going to Es Forn restaurant in the hills, everyone says its amazing but expensive, visiting Ciutadella or the beach near there Cala Turqueta but we will return.

Lovely apartments 4.5 stars

We have just returned from 8 nights at Mar Blau. Check in was quick and easy and they allowed us to get access to our from from 12 which was great. The rooms are clean and tidy, well proportioned and have all the amenities that one would require for a self catering apartment. The cleaners come daily change towels and bedding twice weekly. They do a fabulous job around the resort as the place is spotless. The gardener also works tirelessly keeping the place looking beautiful.

The pool bar served good food and drink and we particularly enjoyed the fresh fish options.

A couple of negatives, the air con didn't work particularly well, and paying 4.50 a night for a travel cot, that creaked every time out baby moved and clearly had seen better days seemed to be excessive and not necessary.

All in all we had a great stay at the apartments and would definitely return again
