Comfortable history

Launceston has some significant period buildings, so it seems appropriate to stay in one whilst a visitor. We stayed in the Lodge, which is very convenient for those who don't wish to tackle stairs. The beautiful wood panelling, Georgian doors, windows and fireplaces gave a feeling of elegant comfort while the kitchen and bathroom were very functional. There is even a lovely shared garden at the back where a cuppa or lunch can be enjoyed. The Mansions are very close to the city centre but not noisy. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed for 3 nights in the Baroness suite, also stayed in this suite about 6 years ago.
Love this building, the suite is so comfortable with everything you need in a self contained unit.Just love sitting on the comfy lounge in front of the lovely gas heater with the sun streaming in through the window.
Off street parking, close to shops, just up the street from Okeeffs hotel where we had dinner make the York Mansions a must place to stay in Launceston.
Your hosts Ann and John make sure your stay is enjoyable.
Have no hesitation in recommending this venue to family and friends and if ever we are back in Launceston we will definately here again.

We spent 4 nights in the "Baroness" apartment at York Mansions. Everything you need is in the apartment, it's spacious, comfortable and has a wonderful brass bed! John is a great host, recommending things to see and do and places to eat. The apartments are within walking distance of the main shopping area, park, restaurants and Boag's brewery. The gardens are beautiful and we were impressed by the wonderful old oak tree in the centre. Clean, comfortable and well-located. Highly recommended!
Lovely apartment in a great location.

I stayed at York Mansions for one night, at the last minute, not being able to find accommodation anywhere else in Launceston because March is high tourist season in Tasmania. I would have stayed there before but was deterred by the prices which can be expensive. On this occasion I booked in at a very reasonable rate and was surprised to find myself allocated a large and beautifully decorated suite. The sitting room looked out into York Street and was furnished in a pseudo Regency style which was both relaxing and formal at the same time. The bedroom was equally elegant and it was also quiet being set back from the street and facing the rather delightful English garden in the courtyard behind the house. The bathroom was spacious and perfectly equipped. It even had a spa bath, which is an increasingly common feature in Tasmanian hotels for some reason. The kitchen was one of the best hotel/apartment kitchens I have ever seen. It had everything you would ever need to provide any meal for any number of people and it was beautifully appointed as well in elegant wooden paneling and appropriately toned fittings. The proprietor welcomed me when I arrived and showed me how everything worked. He was very gracious and personable and made it clear that he and his colleagues were available should anything be required. I was sorry that I could not spend more time in the York Mansions which actually offer a somewhat unique experience in Launceston because of the care which is evidently taken to recreate the interiors as they might once have been and to provide a very high standard of accommodation in a private and very comfortable setting.
