What People are saying

Definitely needs to improve

I stayed here for a week on a business trip. While I was impressed with the size of my room, I wasn't impressed with the maintenance. I woke up to the sound of lots of running water one night; my shower had turned on and would not turn off. The next morning, I called to let them know and they promptly turned the water off and asked me to move. Not possible, since I had to leave for a meeting. There was a lot of back and forth, attempts to repair it, more back and forth. Eventually, they did fix the shower later that day

Ok, next up: I asked for a hair dryer. They brought one and after using it for a minute, I noticed it was making a loud grating nose. I asked for another one and the desk said that was the only one they had. I kept using it since I needed to dry my hair. At some point, the noise became louder and the hair dryer made a dramatic sound, jerked and shut off. At this point, I noticed pieces of melted black plastic all over the floor, my bed, and yes, my hair and clothing. I threw the hair dryer out and told the front desk. I mentioned this to a colleague who said she had the same problem--the day before, and told the desk to get rid of the hair dryer. They gave her a new hair dryer and said they would dispose of the one not working. Well, they didn't and I ended up with melted plastic in my hair.

It's clear the owner and management don't care about maintenance and facilities management.

The food is very mediocre. Don't order a pizza. It took our pizza 45 minutes to come out, and each time we tried to cancel the order, the wait staff said it was only another five minutes.

Check out was incredibly slow.

I won't stay here again.

Average Hotel - with average service

Stayed at Apo Hotel for business in May 2015. As of May 1st 2015, the hotel is no longer part of the Protea chain. The set up of the hotel is neat with smaller buildings spread out. The restaurant and amenities are centrally located. The room was quite ok, though small, the mattress comfortable and enough power outlets available, the a/c is strong and runs quietly which is a great advantage.

The internet connection is lousy the further you get away from the main building and did not work at all about 2/3 of the day

Breakfast choices are small and the restaurant menu is nothing special

The gym is OK, it would be better if the equipment would be better maintained and functioning

The little ants running through the room and bed are actually cute and do not bite (at least not me)

There was a little glitch with the payment and it took some time to convince the staff that I do not want my overpaid amount (USD 400) as a credit for my next stay but want to have it back without additional cash transaction fees.

Below protea standards

The service and food is good, but you can clearly see the owner does not want to do any capital inlay into the hotel as everything is going backwards. It's not at all protea standards at all.i will not recommended it to any expat wishing to visit Abuja

A home from home

I have stayed at the Protea Hotel Apo Apartments in Abuja for many years and it is consistently good. The rooms are clean as is the linen and bedding. The food is now great and the staff are always obliging and friendly. It is always a pleasure to be accommodated there and the staff, from the GM down do their best to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thanks Protea Apo team. I will be back many more times.

Simply Vile, Avoid.

I suspected something was wrong when it was the staff that checked us in that also took us to the apartment!
A hotel or a truck stop motel?
Dirty splintered front door to the apartment complemented by three disused or should i say abandoned air-conditioning units right by the entrance. With wife and three kids in a maybe not so strange but rather unfamiliar town at the eve of a public holiday, i felt a sinking filling in my gut.
Rising damp, dry rot, stale air and broken furniture later, we settled in to sleep on wooden mattresses hopefully devoid of bugs only to discover that we had to intermittently get up to switch the epileptic air conditioning back on whenever there was a change in power source.
Two refrigerators later we could now cool the bottles of water we purchased to replace the two half liter bottles which constituted the daily allowance for a family of 5 staying in a two bedroom apartment.
Dirty Gym, Insect bath of a pool, it was a litany of horrors. its simply incredible that any self respecting hotel chain would have their name associated with this dump.
Checking out two days later was indeed a relief however the non-refund of a deposit for incidentals to my card two clear weeks after i checked out is preventing me from getting this nightmarish experience off my mind.
