What People are saying

Average - 3* not 4*

Stayed here in August with a friend. Rooms were very basic for a 4* hotel but was clean and large enough. Pool was quite small but it was quiet -sometimes there were moments you could have it to yourself which is rare for August and school holidays! They also allow you to take your own floats in which was a nice touch. Great location just a short walk and you’re on the beach! And right by the town. Food was basic id recommend going out to restaurants instead. The hotel itself felt run down and needed modernising but on the whole a pleasant stay but wouldn’t return.

Good four star option in Rhodes

kingsimon on 07/11/2017 12:15

I stayed in the Apollo Beach Hotel for a one week, last minute trip with my wife and our toddler who is a year and a half. We had booked the entire trip less than 24 hours before we departed to Rhodes and were basically looking for a relaxing getaway trip to recover from stressful weeks at work. We were lucky someone had cancelled and got the last room as it was end-of-the-season but also fall holidays in Germany. The hotel was probably built in the 80s and is a 4 star place with a few signs of age. Nevertheless, it kept what it promised: Good food (esp. given the amount of people they cater for), family friendly (the staff soon knew our son's name), a nice covered and heated pool, proximity to the beach, etc. They do not have the 5 star beds that you sink in but rather simple single beds, they do not have a fancy shower but a practical bathroom. It really depends on your expectations (some of the bad reviews seemed to have forgotten about value for the money). Ultimately, the hotel provided exactly what we were looking for so we were overall happy.

The only "downside". If it is an all-inclusive hotel, they really shouldn't charge for internet and usage of the safe...

Another excellent trip

Back home from our second home. The hotel staff at all levels were efficient, friendly and eager to help. We have been visiting this hotel for over 39 years. Some of the staff are old friends who greet you like a long lost relative. Food, cleanliness all excellent.Looking forward to our 40th year anniversary visit next year.

A GOOD HOTEL WITH CERTAIN ISSUES (AN UPDATE)

A GOOD HOTEL WITH CERTAIN ISSUES (AN UPDATE)

Staying at this generally well functioning beach hotel (with a capacity of circa 650-700 beds) is for the most part “good value for money”, but it also involves certain issues unbecoming to a four star hotel that may be of concern to some of its guests. It is located on a beautiful, long and sandy beach (where the sea is crystal clear and a few sea sports facilities are available at a charge by private local entrepreneurs and use of the deck chairs are available at an extra charge), on spacious lawn covered grounds with some palm trees, in a forty year old renovated building. Cuisine is varied and excellent; bars and “snacks corner” and two swimming pools for adults (one of them new and for all seasons, indoor, two sides can open, heated in spring, 25 m long, roof partly transparent, WC/showers on side.) and one for children are adequate; front desk (reception and concierge) services are of a high standard; entertainment, music and dance live shows by different groups (different ones on each evening, half of which are taking place in its adjoining “sister” hotel, which, as far as I know, is owned virtually by the same stockholders) are of high quality; rooms are spacious, well equipped and clean (most of them with partial lateral sea view, only a few with a full sea view).

However (compared and in contrast with what I experienced when I stayed at it in the past), I noticed that certain services were faltering. To my disappointment, I was informed that security has been shown to be inadequate on certain occasions, during my stay there and before my arrival. A deficient fire drill took place (without adequate information to guests and without any guest participation, as the hotel was full at the time) and understandably a few guests and myself raised a querying eyebrow while observing staff alone performing an evacuation drill. Although there are daily, one hour long animation events for children, there are not play grounds (for under-aged children) supervised by an adult, for a substantial length of time. A parent (if he/she so wishes) may ask individually at the Reception Desk for an animator to act as a child minder for his/her children, at an extra charge. I noticed that a couple of the four toilets in the basement of the lobby, available to guests, were not very clean occasionally, and the doors of two of them did not have a locking handle/knob or a lock. Certain aspects of house-keeping services and services in the restaurant where dinner and breakfast are served were occasionally lacking or inappropriate (in contrast with the excellent services offered in the restaurant where lunch is served), and a couple of members of staff in one of the hotel bars showed inappropriate attitude to me on several occasions during my stay. Once, to my astonishment, I was also subjected to an unjustified, uncalled for, unsubstantiated and misguided vituperation aimed at and demeaning to me by one of the owners of the hotel.

All things considered, accommodation and services in this hotel are like a curate’s egg.

Average hotel, poor restaurant

Cristian_F1974 on 13/08/2017 15:04

The location is good, near the sandy beach. This is the only good thing about this hotel, the rest of it beeing average to poor. We had two rooms on the third floor, both seemed deprecated. The kids room had an electrical problem right in the first night scaring them pretty good. Fortunately it was fixed... The AC did not have a remote control, the fridge was very noisy so we had to turn it off at night, the plumbing was dubious as you were required by a sign not to throw "anything" in the toilet. There was no shower cabin, only a tub with a curtain so it was impossible to take a shower without spilling the water all over the floor. One of the days, the room was not cleaned (probably because we did not tip). The restaurant had major issues. First of all, most of the tables were very small. A family of four could not possibly eat comfortable at such tables, however we had no choice. There were only a few larger tables and the waiters did not hesitate to deny four people sitting there (when we tipped them, things changed). The food was very poor, I can hardly believe the reviews saying the food was good. Very few types of food, hardly any fish or sea food, queues, empty trays, etc. At lunch and dinner, you had to pay for all drinks, including filtered water. Despite that, no menu or price list was available on the table. The draft beer was poor, the wine was cheap and if you wanted a fresh juice you had to insist to bring it from the bar, othewise all you could give to the kids was a lousy juice from a dispenser. To summarize: the beach and the water are great, the hotel and especially the restaurant are not.
